That stings. Cal was one strike away from a 2-0 series lead over the Trojans, but Logan Scott wasn't able to get that strike. Instead, USC's James Roberts managed a two out single that drove in two runs as the Trojans returned the favor by winning in much the same fashion that Cal won on Thursday night.

USC's 9th inning rally erased a magnificent outing from Matt Flemer, who lowered his ERA to 2.33 while throwing 7 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out at many batters (six) as he allowed on base. It should have been enough, but USC's Andrew Triggs was nearly as good in a complete game performance.

Cal really needs to take the rubber match or risk falling to 2-7 in conference play. Justin Jones is tentatively listed as today's starter but we could potentially see Kyle Porter, amongst others. whichever pitcher starts will likely have a very short leash. The bullpen is well rested and this is a game the Bears need to have. USC counters with Ben Mount (4.95 ERA) who has been hit around a bit himself. Don't expect another low scoring pitcher's duel this afternoon. Go Bears!
