The Bears fell 4-1 yesterday to Oregon in a game that seemed painfully close but also completely unattainable. Close because the game was tied 1-1 in the 8th inning. Unattainable because Cal couldn't get anything going against Oregon ace Alex Keudell and because the Ducks were constantly threatening to break the deadlock over the last few innings.

It's not a shock that Cal dropped game 1 against a pitcher like Keudell, but it does ramp up the pressure with ace Matt Flemer on the mound. Oregon's Jake Reed is hardly a slouch, and it's a safe bet that runs will be at a premium again this afternoon. Cal's bats will have to bounce back after managing just 5 hits last night - one of which was a pop fly that Oregon let drop due to miscommunication.
