Mar 20, 2012; South Bend, IN, USA; California Golden Bears guard Brittany Boyd (15) attempts to pass as Notre Dame Fighting Irish guard Skylar Diggins (4) and guard Natalie Novosel (21) defend during the first half in the second round of the 2012 NCAA women's basketball tournament at Edmund P. The Bears fought hard. They scratched and clawed, never gave in, and gave Notre Dame a much tougher battle than many people expected. Ultimately Devereaux Peters was too much down low, Skylar Diggins was too much in the 2nd half, and Notre Dame's advantage from the foul line made a huge difference. I'll keep things classy and just defer to Doris Burke, who will have to wage an epic battle with Doug Gottlieb for the title of "Cal fan's favorite ESPN personality."
Layshia Clarendon played a fantastic, poised game. Brittany Boyd looked great when she was actually on the court. Reshanda Gray and Gennifer Brandon had strong performances. We won't be able to see them in action for eight months or so. That's eight months too long, and I can't wait. Thanks for a wonderful season Bears, and I'm looking forward to the encore. More thoughts coming tomorrow.
