Marques Johnson just said
3 players in lead for POY are
UW’s Ross
Cal’s Jorge
OSU’s Cunningham.
He said Jorge is in the lead spot for the award, but said that Cunningham is leading the conference in both pts and steals and the last 5 guys to pull off that double have won the award. I think Jorge getting only 4 hurts a fair amount.

The game was really fun. The four CGBers made a good amount of noise for the Cal fans in attendance. $C has pitiful ticket sales so we moved down to the $c student section for the second half, by the Cal bench. Got a couple good Cal cheers going throughout the game, which shocked the $c students (as we were making more noise than all 20 of them)

"Remember the Maine! TO HELL WITH STANFORD!"
really…look for ticket brokers online…not official/stubhub…
and they always have tickets they’re looking to offload for games like this…
We went to the ticket window and were given three options, Echo/we chose Tier 3 as the best seats were only $30, unfortunately $C’s ticketing program is about as strong as their non-film related degrees, so we ended up in the upper deck for a high price. We figured at least we were helping that struggling $C endowment program, ya know?

Dunno about standings-wise, but I’m rooting for UCLA only because teams tend to come out harder after a loss, especially on Saturday after a Thursday loss. Not that they’re going to overlook Cal, but they won’t have the threat of getting swept at “home” hanging over them.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
Good to be in First
But honestly, the team I am most afraid of at this point is Arizona. They have a favorable schedule to finish the year and they have the tiebreaker with us…
3 teams will tie for first
UW, Cal, and Arizona all play each other only once I believe.
So, the 3 top teams all end up having the advantage of not playing each other but once.
Coincidence?
It very well may come down to the tourney, and that doesn’t favor Cal b/c of the night after night format. Cal needs to win out at this point. Going to be a tall order.

Uh, we had a chance to do it last in 2011. Before that, we had a chance in 2010, then again in 2009 and 2008. In 2007, we also had a chance and also in 2006 and 2005. Don’t forget about 2004, 2003, 2002, as we were playing 4 games against those 2 schools in those years as well. Then again, there was 2001 all the way down to 1991, and before that back to 1981 and back another 10 years to 1971…. ah, another 10 years to 1961, and 1960 and 1959, too!
I think a chance to sweep meaning we went into the final game 3-0.

at UCLA, at Colorado, and at Furd is a lot to ask
if we’re 75% favs in each (which I doubt), that’s still only 42% to sweep…plus then we’ve got to get all the rest, which reduces the chances even further
Indeed. I’d be happy with 5-1, and I do think that’d be enough to get us a piece of the conference title.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
I’ll be happy with a W on Saturday. The margin for error is so thin right now, especially with a shallow team with a questionable bench…getting any road win against a competent team is a major victory.
Agreed. To ask a team with a grand total of 2 road wins before tonight to come out and pull of a road sweep? Seems like a lot.
Oh, and you want to do it again in the mountain states in 2 weeks? Not even worth thinking about right now.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
I mean, if you take a step back, since the heartbreak versus Zona, we haven’t done a damn thing. Saturday is an actual test, and I pray to God we pass.
We haven’t had a CHANCE to do a damn thing. We did blow out two terrible teams and give our starters a decent amount of rest, though, which isn’t bad.

In the sense that if the ball bounces a little differently and we pull it out, we come out of the toughest stretch of the season smelling like a rose, are in the driver’s seat for the conference, a significant favorite to dance, and boot Zona out of the title race.
Instead, we lose a coinflip and now we’re on a high wire.
I also think there’s a positive psychological effect from winning games like that.
It’s still very possible to achieve our goals, but it would be a lot more comfortable if we had pulled that out.
Well, the Huskies losing tonight kind of evens it out IMO. We’re back in the driver’s seat, inasmuch as we are in 1st place and control our own destiny.

Doesn’t change the RPI hit (16 spots, I believe), the loss of the opportunity to get the closest thing to a resume win left on our schedule (Zona has the 2nd highest RPI in the Pac-12), and now Zona is coming up like a freight train behind us, with five of six very good matchups for them down the stretch.
I’m not saying it wouldn’t have been nice to beat them, and obviously with that loss it makes things harder. But if we take care of business from here on out, we should be okay.

but I’m feeling good about the rest of our games.
I think @UCLA is a bigger challenge than is @Colo at this point in the season.
5-1 should win the Pac-12 outright (tough but doable). I think Arizona has one more loss on their schedule, and Washington has two.
