[Twist Note: We'll try to have open threads for any and all baseball games where you can follow them either by radio or TV. Today is the FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON! YAY!!! The following is from NorCalNick. GO BEARS!]
When: 1:30 pm PT
Baseball is finally back! You’ll be able to follow today’s game by following KALX's live stream. Cal’s season opens today at Evans Diamond as the Bears take on the University of Pacific. The Tigers finished last season 17-37 and are predicted to finish 7th in the 9 team Big West, so this is a team Cal is expected to play well against. That said, they split the season series 1-1 last year, so don’t take anything for granted.
UOP had a decent lineup last season but lost a couple of their best hitters to graduation. The bulk of the pitching staff returns, but they’ll have to improve after posting a 6.30 ERA as a staff in 2011. Lefty JC transfer Travis Lumby will be making the start against Cal’s Justin Jones. The major storyline will be Jones’s effectiveness in his return to action after last season’s arm injury suffered against Dallas Baptist. Go Bears!
