Alex Morgan with the equalizing goal in the 88th minute, and the game-winning goal in stoppage time for the USWNT against New Zealand.

Sometime between now and the Olympics I’m probably going to have to write a post begging Pia Sundhage to start Alex Morgan. She’s either scored or assisted on, what, every important goal they’ve scored recently?
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
I believe she started a match or two ago and they rocked 4-0.

Right, she got the start in that Olympics qualifier final AFTER the US has already clinched the Olympics berth.
I agree that it would be nice to see her play more but there would not be any late game dramatics if she starts as she would then be the one who gets subbed out and missed out on the OT and PK at the end of the game.

Morgan is awesome,
but as devil’s advocate, I can see why keeping her as a super-sub is also a good idea. Part of what makes her so effective is that she’s incredibly good, and makes the more tired players who’ve played 75 minutes already look silly. If she starts, she may lose a little bit of that advantage.
Then again, what do I know? I want to see her play more as well.
It reminds me of Mike Mohamed’s role in the wrecking crew.
Neither started, but it wasn’t due to lack of talent. They just helped the team more by being in that role. Kudos for them for not having egos and insisting on starting roles.

I would be very surprized if she
didn’t start during the next olympics or world cup.
I think part of it is Pia protecting her a little in her first year or so of professional play. She’s looking to the future.

Woooooow
She’s a BEAST.
It’s awesome to know I’ve seen her in person while she was still in college. There was no doubt she was the leader of the bunch, and as humble as possible. Just…. Awesome.
