Sonny Dykes and Cal picked up another recruit when they landed the services of offensive lineman Erik Bunte out of Mission Viejo.

Cal is getting back to work in getting offensive lineman signed up to play with the Bears. Erik Bunte had a succesful trip up to Berkeley this week and he's ready to get moving on up to play for the Bears. Here's his commitment story with 247 Sports.

He wasted little time after the move and appears to be completely happy with his decision.

"I committed to Cal because the place felt right," Bunte said. "I loved Berkeley and it's an amazing campus at Cal. The education is top rate which also helped with my decision."

Bunte was originally committed to UCLA early in the process, but reopened things up last week after the hire of Sonny Dykes. He's a definite big boy at 6'7", 310 pounds, and as an offensive tackle out of Mission Viejo has a good chance to become an immediate member of the rotation.

Here are the current rankings with Bunte.

  • Rivals: 60th best offensive tackle, 70th best recruit in California
  • ESPN: 24th best offensive tackle, 39th best recruit in California
  • 247 Sports: 28th best offensive tackle, 38th best recruit in California
  • Scout: 33rd best offensive tackle

Bunte transferred to Mission Viejo after a tough stint at Santa Margarita his senior season. He enjoyed several offers from Arizona State, Cal, UCLA and Cincinnati. However, he probably didn't receive many offers due to his early commitment to the Bruins back in March.

Welcome to Cal Erik! GO BEARS!
