Can the Bears escape LA with a split? - Cal Volleyball Twitter
Another day, another top 10 opponent as the Bears (14-13, 8-9) look to continue the great hitting from yesterday but go against a more normal effort from the opposing team. The hope last night was for UCLA to overlook the Bears in anticipation against No.1 Furd today, the hope today is for USC (25-4, 13-4) to have a huge letdown game tonight (in their Senior Night) after upsetting No.1 Furd in 4 sets last night. GO BEARS!

In yesterday's preview of the UCLA match, I raved about how great the Bears were blocking in the previous two week. Of course, UCLA answered with an unbelievable and should-have-been-unsustainable streak of hitting above 0.500 for all 3 sets (hitting percentage = (Kills - Errors)/attempts, so not only are the Bruins getting points more than half of the time on their swings, they are also not making any hitting errors). The Bears actually hit quite well in the 3 sets as well, with a cumulative hitting percentage of 0.299 (which was UCLA's season average that is good for 4th best in the country).
Tonight, the Bears face another tough opponent in USC, who are flying high after upsetting the No.1 team in the country and the conference, Stanfurd Cardinals in 4 sets dig-fest (USC had a season high 112 digs while Furd countered with 117) yesterday. Will the Bears catch a break and get a tired squad of Women of Troy or will the Bears just catch fire (like UCLA did last night) and it doesn't matter what USC do?
For the Trojans last night, junior libero Natalie Hagglund had 44 digs (in just 4 sets). Freshman outside hitter Samantha Bricio had a match high 19 kills and 22 digs.
A win tonight will basically guarantee the Bears a spot in the NCAA tournament.
