As some of you know, I'm slightly obsessed with attendance, and take particular interest (gleeful joy) in the the lack thereof at just about any Stanford home sporting event. While watching the Stanford / Arizona game (DAMN YOU RICH ROD!!!) I was truly impressed with the yawning indifference exhibited by the Bay Area and the Stanford community in this event... I mean Stanford has only been to back-to-back BCS games, is ranked in the top 20, etc... So I guess Stanford fans (such as they are) still haven't quite warmed to the team yet. Need pictorial proof? Here is Stanford Stadium mid way through the first quarter
After the jump, that support getting national recognition
So Sunday night, while watching the Pac12 Network Football Rewind, i was surprised (and delighted) when the studio analysts there just blasted the lack of fans at Stanford Stadium. It was sort of painful (wasn't painful at all). And then as if on cue, this headline popped up in my news feed from USAToday
Stanford wins "No one is at our game" award for Week 6"
5:44PM EST October 6. 2012 - Miami is on the road this week, leaving the door open for someone else to claim the No One Is At Our Football Game throne in Week 6.
Oh hello, Stanford.
Yes, I'm a little bitter at Stanford's recent football success. Yes, I think they're totally overrated and living on borrowed time (DAMN YOU RICH ROD)... But it's stuff like this that reinforces how glad I am to be a Cal Bear... And I hope our players see this... I hope their players see it. And I hope every young kid who's thinking about playing football at Stanford or Cal sees it because where would you rather be playing?
