If it hadn't occurred towards the end of the year, when hopes had been suitably crushed, Cal's loss to Oregon would've been the most disappointing of the year. Oregon was the 2nd worst team in the conference last year, and their win at Haas Pavilion was one of just four conference wins. And Cal lost by 14.
It was particularly galling to be because in every other game between Cal and Paul Westhead's Ducks (4 in total) the Bears won fairly easily. Cal's team speed and ability to run allow to to match up well with Oregon, which is why last season's loss was evidence of a team with no confidence and drive.
But that was last year, and this year is this year. And this year, Oregon has parlayed a decidedly mediocre schedule into a 9-6 record, and sport just one conference win by 2 points at home over a bad Washington squad. That one win was sandwiched between blowout losses to Stanford and Washington St. This is another game that Cal has no business losing, particularly because Amanda Johnson, Oregon's best player, is out with a thumb injury.
This is your gamethread, let's earn a sweep!

So no video for this one, which is super disappointing. This was the first game that was going to get my undivided attention since the Ohio St. game.
At least the Utah game will be on actual TV next week!

Not a clue. The gamenotes indicate that there should be video, but there’s no link on the schedule or on all-access.

Afure out today, but should be back next week which is excellent news.

Oregon in a zone
Which is what every team is going to do to us . . . unless Rainbow Sherbert keeps nailing 3s! Cal up 3-0!

Yay. Go Bears! Let’s beat stupid Oregon.

15-4 Bears
I enjoy listening to the Bears destroy transition teams on the offensive glass. It’s always like this against Oregon and Arizona (except last year’s Oregon game. Sigh.)

22-9 Bears
Oregon hits a couple jumpers, but Cal is . . . hold on to something stable, prepare yourselves . . . making their 3s and free throws!!!!
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
34-13 Bears!
Great defensive effort (I assume) – Oregon I think only has one inside basket, and only one transition basket.
I love hearing Dave Lewis continually say ‘largest lead!’

Our offensive rebound percentage is 75%. As a point of reference, 50% is usually considered really, really good.

41-23, Bears
When I heard ‘Boyd 1-on-1’ I knew we’d be getting 2 points shortly.

I hope we don’t get too 3-happy, though if we keep making them . . .

Let's hope the men can do the same tomorrow in Eugene !!!!
I think this team is meeting its potential right now, from what you’re all saying.
I'd like to smell the Roses before I die.
Wow, we took 43 shots in the first half
More than 2 shots a minute!
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
61-44, Bears
Well, our scoring has slowed down, but Oregon’s has too.

Is this from Gametracker, or did the audio come back?

Bears lead 78-55. It’s amazing how those little Gametracker Bears can shoot so well without arms!

83-55 Bears with 3:30 left. Almost in Waffle Territory, although I don’t think the women do waffles. : (

GO BEARS!
But it sure would have been nice to see, or at least hear, the second half.

Nick, you were sure right when you said the Bears ought to be able to dominate everybody (except Stanfurd) in rebounding. Cal had 37 more rebounds than Oregon, Cal 63, Oregon 26. And Cal had 28 offensive rebounds, to Oregon’s 4. Even though Oregon is not a good team, that is still incredible.

Waffles!
(except I don’t think that promotion counts for women’s bball games. Still it’s nice to break the 85-point barrier)

What a lovely game. It’s true that one really wants to crush a more powerful team, but a win is a win and all that.
(Can anyone tell me how Gen Brandon is able to achieve a double-double with just one turnover and NO fouls? Perhaps the Pac-12 should inaugurate a Magic Unicorn conference honor, so Gen can win it.)
