Cal Men's Basketball Puts Down Stanford, 69-59
Rejoice, Bear fans!
The good guys in blue n' gold have prevailed.
Our seniors were great.
Crabbe and Cobbes got theirs.
And lets hear it for some of the guys off the bench, Smith, Behrens, and Thurman who all had key contributions.
This is your post-game thread. Revel. Enjoy! Cal has beaten the Furds and all is well in the world.
Go Bears!

Jorge the Only Bear EVER to beat 'Furd all 4 times he faced them at home!
That’s something pretty special!
(Harper did not play in ‘10, and lost in ’08. Being there for 4 wins, and playing in 3 isn’t bad either.)

Wouldn’t that also mean that Montgomery is undefeated against Stanfurd at Haas?

that explains it
I didn’t realize that the bear logo was spread out between 3 people. The red head kid who is the bear’s bottom was doing this crazy dance to distract Furd during their free throws.

Didn’t see any recruits. We did see KA21, I think Twist got a stalker pic of him.

But the bench is going to have to step up and Monty is going to have to trust them with more minutes. Kamp, Jorge, Cobbs, Crabbe and Kravish are going to wear out. Thurman, Bak, Smith and Behrens need to step up.
I was glad to see Bak, Behrens, and Thurman get some extended run tonight. Given this was the only game of the week, Monty could have gone with just the core guys for the entire game. However, he did give the bench guy some much needed experiences that would translate, hopefully, to future key situations.

I was going to give Behrens best player
because he came in and brought it when we needed him in the first half

I don't know if Monty could have kept the lineup that short
Even with a one game week.
The Pac-12 tourney is going to be tough to win for our team.

For God so loved the Bears, that he gave his only begotten Crabbe, that whosoever believeth in him should not lose at home to Stanfurd, but have a double-digit victory.

I don’t often get the chance to watch Cal basketball and when I do, I’m always disappointed by the officiating. The refs call fouls on everything. It kills the pacing of the game (and the enjoyment gained by watching). I tend to find the Cal women’s team and the NBA to be considerably more enjoyable to watch. It’s too bad; I hope the Pac-12 does something about this during the offseason.

Thats college basketball in general. NBA is more of a show. This is why defense is more important in NCAA.
by WallStreet GoldenBear on Jan 29, 2012 8:24 PM PST up reply actions
But you can barely even play defense without racking up a ton of fouls. I wish they would allow a tougher, more aggressive style of defense in the Pac-12.

Am I known as Cugel the Clever for nothing?
And before I forget
Technically I didn’t have a seat! My ticket read row 23, seat 23; but there wasn’t any seat 23. The row ended at seat 22. Luckily Cugel had the two end seats (21&22) and since his son couldn’t make it, I got the seat.

Well, if you listen to the quote in context...
It’s actually the kind of thing you want to hear. He says, “Whoever’s on top, that’s our rival”. He’s saying Cal wants to aim to be the best, no matter how good or bad stanfurd is.

Those of you who frequent the DBD will know what a great relationship I have with my HR rep at work. Her son plays for beezlebub and I was seated directly across the floor from her. I got to watch her not enjoying the game for two hours. HA.
