Cal Men's Basketball Puts Down Stanford, 69-59

Rejoice, Bear fans!

The good guys in blue n' gold have prevailed.

Our seniors were great.

Crabbe and Cobbes got theirs.

And lets hear it for some of the guys off the bench, Smith, Behrens, and Thurman who all had key contributions.

This is your post-game thread. Revel. Enjoy! Cal has beaten the Furds and all is well in the world.

Go Bears!

that explains it

I didn’t realize that the bear logo was spread out between 3 people. The red head kid who is the bear’s bottom was doing this crazy dance to distract Furd during their free throws.

But the bench is going to have to step up and Monty is going to have to trust them with more minutes. Kamp, Jorge, Cobbs, Crabbe and Kravish are going to wear out. Thurman, Bak, Smith and Behrens need to step up.

by LeonPowe on Jan 29, 2012 8:00 PM PST reply actions

I was glad to see Bak, Behrens, and Thurman get some extended run tonight. Given this was the only game of the week, Monty could have gone with just the core guys for the entire game. However, he did give the bench guy some much needed experiences that would translate, hopefully, to future key situations.

by LEastCoastBears on Jan 29, 2012 9:01 PM PST up reply actions

Damn

I was yelling most of the game to get it into Thurman more, he could have had a bigger role. Was nice to see Behrens, liked what I saw. Bak? any time he plays is a bonus.

by Thetravesty on Jan 29, 2012 10:18 PM PST up reply actions

I don’t often get the chance to watch Cal basketball and when I do, I’m always disappointed by the officiating. The refs call fouls on everything. It kills the pacing of the game (and the enjoyment gained by watching). I tend to find the Cal women’s team and the NBA to be considerably more enjoyable to watch. It’s too bad; I hope the Pac-12 does something about this during the offseason.

I also agree with this and have the same issue with men’s CBB games.

by SDBear on Jan 29, 2012 8:12 PM PST up reply actions

Thats college basketball in general. NBA is more of a show. This is why defense is more important in NCAA.

by WallStreet GoldenBear on Jan 29, 2012 8:24 PM PST up reply actions

But you can barely even play defense without racking up a ton of fouls. I wish they would allow a tougher, more aggressive style of defense in the Pac-12.

AGREED

And this F-ing kills at tourney time every year, because the other conferences don’t play like that. So we play soft, looking for the foul, and the refs say “play on”.
