Great News!

Is there a place that summarizes the current status of our recruiting class?

Fire Starkey. You... complete me.

Likely tomorrow. Patience.

by Avinash Kunnath on Jan 25, 2012 2:12 PM PST up reply actions

Sounds good… looking forward to it… excuse my lack of patience for raw excitement… you guys do a great job…keep it up and roll on…

Most of the lists you’ll find online (at least the ESPN list) is kind of out of date after all of the de-commits after Tosh and Kiseau left. For example, the ESPN list still has Payton and Shaq listed as committed.

Dozier
Walker
Harper
Powe
Treggs
Barton
Tagaloa
Cochran
Moore
Drew

All reaffirmed their commitments recently.

Kline and Okafor are already enrolled.

Anyone else I’m missing?

by LouisMurphy'sLaw on Jan 25, 2012 2:08 PM PST up reply actions

No one has decommitted.

by Avinash Kunnath on Jan 25, 2012 2:08 PM PST up reply actions

Just McCarthy.

"i, for one, welcome our new atomic overlords" - GoldBlooded

by atomsareenough on Jan 25, 2012 2:09 PM PST up reply actions

It’s not considered a decommit when you say you’re reevaluating your decision?

by LouisMurphy'sLaw on Jan 25, 2012 2:10 PM PST up reply actions

Plenty of verbals take visits to make sure their decision is correct. Treggs has been taking visits all fall despite being a Cal commit.

by Avinash Kunnath on Jan 25, 2012 2:12 PM PST up reply actions

That’s why we only went down to #11 from #8 on the ESPN Class Rankings. They are all still committed to Cal except McCarthy.

by JustBear on Jan 25, 2012 2:19 PM PST up reply actions

Okay. So it only counts if they commit to another school?

I guess I was confused because I read an article yesterday about Drew re-committing to Cal. As far I know, he never said he was going anywhere else, just reevaluating his decision.

by LouisMurphy'sLaw on Jan 25, 2012 2:24 PM PST up reply actions

Drew gave a soft verbal, because he said he’d still be taking visits to UO and UW. Then he reopened his recruitment a week ago.

Payton and Shaq all gave solid verbals.

by Avinash Kunnath on Jan 25, 2012 2:26 PM PST up reply actions

I know that Payton gave a verbal, but I think he’s as good as gone.

by daveman on Jan 25, 2012 2:37 PM PST up reply actions

I dont think Payton bouncing is a big deal with Dozier, Powe and Walker… I want Arik and Shaq!

by fijitayatcal on Jan 25, 2012 2:56 PM PST up reply actions

yeah, Shaq is must

and I really wanted McCarthy.

by JustBear on Jan 25, 2012 3:25 PM PST up reply actions

I didn’t think McCarthy was a solid commit anyways.

Yeah, me too.

But that’s like a really good thing, right? I like having one of our (hopefully) guys have a name that reminds me of beer. Kind of like Ale Bockman, or Porter McStoutlager.

Mmmmm … Porter McStoutlager. I be he’d go good with a Jumbaco

Quick hypothetical recruiting question:

If we could not have one of the following recruits out of Arik Armstead and Shaq Thompson who would you choose and why?

Personally I think I would pick Arik. IMO a dominate DL can have a greater impact on a game than a safety.

I hope we get both but I would be very happy with just one of these guys.

by SDBear on Jan 25, 2012 4:43 PM PST via mobile reply actions

Aaron Rodgers.

(Sorry, I’m not trying to be an ass. But recruits read everything these days. I’m not picking favorites. I want them all.)

by Avinash Kunnath on Jan 25, 2012 4:53 PM PST up reply actions

i know nothing unitl they are on the field.

if the coaches like em, that’s good enough for me.

I’d choose Shaq Armstead. That guy would be a BEAST!

by SoCal Oski on Jan 25, 2012 5:20 PM PST up reply actions

Personally, I’m more of an Arik Thompson man myself. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

by LouisMurphy'sLaw on Jan 25, 2012 5:28 PM PST up reply actions

Since this is all hypothetical...

I would take Shaq because our secondary needs immense help, while we have enough talent at DL to last us for a bit.

by mrjpark on Jan 25, 2012 8:00 PM PST up reply actions

If I HAD to pick…

Shaq, because an athlete that can be a dynamic playmaker in both the secondary and potentially as an OLB would be amazing.

by CruzinBears on Jan 25, 2012 5:36 PM PST up reply actions

Shaq or Arik

Both would be super. But if I had to pick, I would pick the one that could best solidify this class as a great recruiting class by bringing those who are waivering or in doubt on board. I have said this before: Shaq, Arik, you both have the rare opportunity to be seen as leaders of a future Cal Rose Bowl team. If you commit, others will follow. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by.
