What a week of angst, most of it caused by the despicable University of Washington Huskies.
Despite being short-handed and on the road, your sturdy Golden Bears were up to the task.
How satisfying to go into a hostile arena and leave them in tears.
There were many heroes in this game. And all of them wore blue and gold.
Revel here. Salute your guys. Make no mistake - this was a huge, huge win.

It’s not short-handed any more. This is it. This is what we’ve got.
I thought other than continued struggles from Smitty (who I guess gets a pass for the time off) and some questionable ball security against pressure during 2nd half stretches, it was about as good a performance as we could have expected.
Not crazy about being limited to only 7 players in meaningful, competitive games, and not crazy about how much of a disadvantage we’re at inside, defensively. Glad Thurman can contribute, but he’s got to work, work, work on post D and boxing out.
Overall, good performance on the road secures an important win. Consolidating it on Saturday would put us in very good position roughly halfway through the conference.

Monty Ball kicks Dog Ass
I’m keeping this game on DVR forever. Our guys beat the dogs for exactly the reason I’ve said before I love Monty Ball: they executed beautifully on offense and defense. Set plays accounted for a huge number of our points, and WA plays individual ball. It was a triumph of coaching skill. And player execution.

I’m watching the game on tape delay…it’s on one of the random Fox Sports Atlantic channels on my system. UW’s inability to execute on offense is even more obvious when I watch it calmly and analytically. They clearly got easy buckets EACH AND EVERY TIME they threw it inside, yet every other possession from them is wasted on a bad outside shot.
By contrast, rarely do we have bad possessions. Yes, we do turn it over a little too much, but when we get into our offense, there is always a purpose, and we always get it to areas of the floor where we have an advantage. That’s what was so disconcerting about the Colorado game…it’s the one time all year when we consistently, repeatedly settled for bad shots.
Yeah, I get this. But thankfully, we won that damn game, I was there, yelling like a fool.

Really glad I made it out
I had to take two buses to get there, then carry my kid a couple of miles in the snow (no buses!) until we finally found a taxi, but it was totally worth it. Huge games by so many people.
I will say this, though – even in the middle of a big snowpocalypse, Husky fans still filled 3/4 of that arena, which is pretty impressive.
Interesting that they decided to setup a 3 for Gant at the end there – he didn’t strike me as a particularly deft 3pt shooter, and went 0-fer the game.

With Wilcox out, he was the second best Husky three point shooter, percentage-wise (40%), behind Ross. Assuming Monty was going to throw everything at Ross, the other options were Gaddy 32% and Wroten 20%. Although not ideal to get it to a guy who was ice cold, it was a wide open look…and I think the real problem was a lack of great options without Wilcox.
I once had to dig out a street adjacent to a synagogue, along with 4 other groomsmen, for a friend’s wedding up there. That’s when I figured out Seattle is woefully unprepared for snow.
