2011 Excitement - my friends think I'm crazy

I'm veritably obsessed with the California Golden Bears' upcoming football season and I owe a lot of thanks to CGB for providing the fantastic Cal medicine that's keeping me from going crazy over the next 26 days until the season begins.  Seriously, since discovering the site a couple months ago, I've gone from casually checking in a couple times a week to scouring the CGB archives for ANYTHING to get my Cal fix.  Best Non-Big Games of the 2000s, check. Ranking the Big Games of the 2000s, check.  All-Decade lists, and so so many more, check check check.  I love this friggin' site and it is getting me so pumped for 2011!

Oh yea, and I read all those articles...yesterday.  Nice little Sunday.

I'm clearly late to the party (boy would I have loved to be in on all those comments!) but I'm glad I found CGB and it just allowed me to relive so many memories.  The Baylor blowout, which was my first Cal game (as a Sophomore.. I conveniently ignored Cal football as a Freshman in '01..sorry), rushing the field in '02 and riding the goalpost as we carried it to the south exit, getting blacked out drunk at USC in '04 (but somehow remembering that final drive), realizing WE were wearing the nuclear urine unis and watching Beef Moe ghost-ride the injury cart from Tightwad Hill, the Ezeff forced fumble and ensuing strange, shortened 5-game season of 2007...memories memories oh sweet memories (most of em)

I finished an ungodly amount CGB content late last night and felt compelled to share it with my friends.  I wrangled up about forty Cal emails of friends (many who care, many who don't) and in an email entitled "Cal, let's put last year behind us" sent them links to the top 10 non Big Games of the aughts and tried to share my excitement about the upcoming season, maybe pumping a few people up.

Let's face it, last year sucked.  It effing blew.  After the [insert adjective here: relative-, for better or for worse-, limited-, etc.) success I'd become accustomed to... you mean we didn't even make the Emerald Bowl, let alone a bowl!?  Christ.  Last season's games were painful...and in a very familiar way, just way, way worse.  Luckily here in SF we had the Giants playoffs to soften the blow, but I'll take a successful, exciting, lovable Cal football team over an October run any day.

Now that the afterglow has dimmed a little bit and all the burning mattresses have been cleaned up from Mission Street, I miss Aaron (plus I'm a ChiBears fan so that is really rough) and Marshawn and RoJo and JJ and Pain Train and so many more...and oh reading about Joe Igber always puts a smile on my face.  I miss Cal football and especially the exciting Tedford-powered offenses I remember and just relived because of this site.  I think my friends are tired of my gmail statuses always being an article or a quote or something related to CGB.

Let's put last year behind us but more importantly let's not let it happen again.  It's going to be a good year and many thanks to CaliforniaGoldenBlogs for being the best thing that's happened to me in the last few weeks, since I muttered to a friend, "I'm tired of the internet."  CGB is gonna get me through these final few weeks.  We're almost there, folks!

Suffice to say, I got like three responses from my great Cal friends.  At the very least I wanted a "I was at that game too!  It was the shit!"  Le sigh.  I figured you fine people, from the TwistNHooks to the norcalnicks to Hydros to the PlayClassyBears, might care.  GO BEARS!

See you round and thank you SO much for the piece on the SAHPC.  I had been chomping at the bit in anticipation of part 3.
