I'm not trying to shill here but I'm putting together a California Playlist for tailgating against Fresno St.  Initially I said we'd have Starkey's The Play call, Fight for California and Big C on loop but then I got to thinking about it.  What great musician (or shitty one at that) wouldn't write a song about the greatest state in the union?  Shouldn't be too hard to put together a solid two hours of music about California, right?  After the jump, here's what I have so far, just shy of an hour (arranged by how it sounds good in my head).

12. June - Me (okay, yes, shilling here slightly but it was recorded on Lower Sproul in 2003 and noted lyrics include "it's sunny here in Berkeley, darlin'" and "while you're straight 'cross California")

14. California - Phantom Planet (I didn't say they have to be "good" songs)

15. Estimated Prophet - Grateful Dead

What's missing?  Chili Peppers?  Yep, they sure are.  I think they've been bullshit since they stopped doing heroin for breakfast, plus most of that shit is inspired by SoCal.  So is Phantom Planet's of course since any REAL Californian doesn't use an article before an interstate or highway number, but I remember watching the OC while at Cal and that song has sentimental (however shitty) value.
