United States vs. Sweden: Women's World Cup Gamethread

When: 11:30 am PDT
TV: ESPN, ESPN3

ESPN preview:

Wambach sat out training on Monday and Tuesday in a bid to rest her ailing right Achilles tendon, and given that she is sitting on a yellow card (another caution against Sweden would see her suspended for the quarterfinals), it's likely she may sit out the match. That could create an opening for Alex Morgan to garner her first start of the tournament.

2-0 now

As Sweden scores on what was arguably an own goal, after the US gives away a silly free kick.

and we have one! she just isn’t playing.

midfield has been rough today, particularly Boxx, missing passes. I liked whoever subbed for her last game.

Marta is good. Very good.

by LeonPowe on Jul 6, 2011 6:02 PM PDT up reply actions

It's not.

The Brazilian team is faster and more technically skilled than the Swedish.

Thought our back line was slow against the Swedes? Thought that we couldn’t get any service through to our forwards? Prepare for the horror that will be the Brazilians.

The only good thing is that as a team, they haven’t been performing up to the best they can play and they’re not as disciplined as the European teams. If Hope goes insane with her saves and we manage to sneak in one or two lucky goals, we might get through the Brazilians.

My soccer knowledge is about 0.00%. All I know is that it seems like Brazil and soccer go hand in hand. Like America and funnel cakes!
