Watch Live: Pac-12's major announcement (Consider this an open thread!)
This should be Scott's announcement on the state of the Pac-12 Network (Which I have dubbed "The Network of Champions").
According to Jon Wilner, it looks like Time Warner will be the partner (most likely). This should be a huge announcement as it will shape the future of College Football in significant ways.

Yea, if they announce a completely online channel, this is a rather ominous start.
I support the NBA player's union.
Future network better not look like this!

I hope Scott has a very good reason for tying it to a specific provider. This will be pointless if it’s just another Comcast Sports California-type scenario all over again.

he’s made it very clear that accessibility is priority numero uno. So I would hope TWC can make it work out…I’m not really versed in the Cable distribution madness but it seems like this is a high end product that a lot of folks will want to be a part of, so I can only assume that TWC is bending over backwards for our fearless leader.

Help me understand
If we live in say, Atlanta, and we have Time Warner Atlanta as our cable provider, we would be able to receive the online channel for each of the regional networks (Washington/Oregon/Northern Cal/Southern Cal/Mountain)? Or would we just receive the national boradcast?

by PlayClassyBears on Jul 27, 2011 2:26 PM PDT reply actions
For starters
How will the national distribution work? (i.e. will SEC fans see the awesome that is the Pac-12 without having to pay out the nose).
Will the regional channels only be available in those regions?
Say it like Ron Burgandy signing off: "Stay Classy, Bears!"
by PlayClassyBears on Jul 27, 2011 2:27 PM PDT up reply actions
The regional networks will be carried locally, within their geographically proscribed areas, on basic and digital cable, and the national network will be shown on sports tiers that require an extra fee.

Disappointing
So all the Cal football games will be televised, but you won’t be able to watch all of them unless you live in the Bay Area (assuming some are shown on the regional network). They are already being broadcast, why not make them available online outside the region?
"Some people watch adult videos on their computer - I go to YouTube and watch Jahvid Best highlight clips. That’s what gets me going."- Jim Schwartz, Detroit Lions head coach
If you have the sports package you will be able to watch the games from all the other regions
I am guessing that this will be included in the same package as NBAtv, NFL Netwok, and VS

Verizon FIOS
…how will this all work itself out for Fios people? Am I gonna be watching games on my computer? Or, will only the SoCal channel be shown in the greater LA area?
"To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is
research."
My interpretation
is that the regional will be available on your system as part of a basic-ish package (pending negotiations with Verizon, which is not done yet). However, if you don’t live in the Bay Area then you’ll likely need to subscribe to a sports package to get the national feed (unsure if you also get the regional feeds too or not).
I hope the negotiations with AT&T Uverse go well, me want.

Rivals has their Article Up
Basically, reiterates everything else already said, but adds indemand is providing a lot of the behind the scenes organization.
In addition to broadly distributing the Pac-12 Networks, the four cable operators are utilizing iN DEMAND to provide certain production and operations services to the Pac-12 Networks, which will continue to be wholly owned by the Pac-12 Conference.
This transformative arrangement, set to begin in August 2012, marks the first time a U.S. collegiate conference or any other programmer has launched a collection of networks across a variety of platforms rather than a sole network. And it includes “TV everywhere” rights, permitting the networks to be viewed outside customers’ homes on any digital device, such as smartphones and tablet computers, creating a virtual “Pac-12 Everywhere.”
Expressing his excitement with the new agreement, Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said, “As we explored the potential for a Pac-12 network, it became clear that we could customize programming towards local interests and provide our students, alumni, and many fans the widest possible range of events with the best opportunity to see the schools they care about most.”
I support the NBA player's union.
Bits from Greenspan
http://twitter.com/#!/DanGreenspan
He’s on a conference call with Scott:
Larry Scott says financial terms will not be disclosed. It is a 12-year contract.
All 12 spring football games will be on Pac-12 Networks.
Larry Scott on Pac-12 Networks: "This is the start. This is a critical foundation for us."
Seems like this isn’t about money initially but distribution and exposure. By retaining rights I think Larry is planning on making beaucoup bucks on the digital platforms.
The guy just proves once again he is the most saavy sports person out there right now.

Advertising Rights?
Do we retain the advertising rights and all subsequent advertising revenue? I am assuming this to be true, as the Pac-12 retains full-equity.

does this mean Cal has to have a ‘spring game’ now?
