Cal To Face Ole Miss At Home In NIT First Round Clash
The Bears have been selected as a 4 seed despite some concern because of a record number of NIT automatic qualifiers, and will face the Mississippi Rebels. The game will be held at Haas Pavilion at 6:00 pm PST this Wednesday, and will be aired live on ESPN2. You can find the entire NIT first round schedule here.
The Bears have arguably been placed in the most difficult NIT bracket, but it also creates some potentially exciting matchups. If Cal can get past Mississippi they would likely face soon-to-be Pac-12 conference mates Colorado, and if they progress even further they could end up playing just 20 minutes away from home in Moraga against the St. Mary's Gaels with a trip to New York on the line.
But for now the focus is on Ole Miss. The Rebels and/or Black Bears finished with a record of 20-13 in the SEC and have impressive home wins over Kentucky, Penn St. and Alabama, but have generally struggled on the road with a record of just 4-7 (Best road win: Arkansas?). That's good news for a Cal team with a solid record in Berkeley. The Rebels are led by 5'10'' senior point guard Chris Warren, and generally play excellent offensive basketball. Not a gimme matchup by any means, but the Bears will likely be favorites at home. Go Bears!

Happy to say I was in attendance for ’86, ’87, and ’89. And even though it was the NIT, Harmon was definitely rocking. Especially for that CSUF game … those guys were athletic as hell. That win was all just about wanting it.
I'm thinking of having a little party down in Newport.
I was at the ‘89 game. Harmon was definitely rockin’. Back then, we didn’t know what it was like to be in the NCAA tournament, so being in the NIT was fun.
The only thing I remember about the 1st round win vs. Hawaii was a moment in the second half when things got chippy between Leonard Taylor and Hawaii’s best player (a guy named Cross?).

Oregon accepted a bid to the CBI
That puts 6 Pac-10 teams (and 7 Pac-12 teams) in post-season play.
No word on ’Furd, who would be seemingly next in line. The CBI has not filled out yet – but the CIT (all mid-majors anyway) has
"I wish him nothing but pain in his silly travels especially if they wind up in my octagon. Clearly I have defeated this earthworm with my words — imagine what I would have done with my fire breathing fists."
Good to hear, good luck on your games. The Colorado game would be interesting to see
I'd rather be surfing.

I count:
NCAA:
Arizona
Washington
UCLA
USC
NIT:
California
Washington State
(Colorado)
CBI:
Oregon
That gives us 7 Pac-10 (8 Pac-12) in post season play.
Member of the Lost Tribe of Mooch
Bay Area teams in post-season
NCAA:
None (first time in 20 years)
NIT:
St. Mary’s
California
CBI:
San Jose State
CIT:
San Francisco
Santa Clara
Staying home:
Stanford
Hahaha, though it wouldnt surprise me if Stanford had a CIT bid or something but declined it.

For FrankCohen, since you often ask for "material" on the opposition
It’s old (from 2008-2009), but here go you.
A newly released police video shows Mississippi basketball coach Andy Kennedy pleading with an officer before his arrest on an assault charge.
“I’m begging you … this is a major deal, man,” Kennedy told police.
He added: “This is going to be a national incident, sir.”
Kennedy was arrested in downtown Cincinnati on Dec. 18 after a taxi driver said Kennedy hit him and used racial slurs.
“You turn on me one more time, I’m going to start making some more charges. Do you understand me?” an unidentified police officer told Kennedy.
Kennedy told an officer that he was formerly the University of Cincinnati head coach and was in town to play “Louisville and Rick Pitino” on national television. The officer told Kennedy he didn’t want to talk with him.
Kennedy later pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.

Keep this in mind.
