Mike Montgomery Reprimanded For Pac-10 Officiating Comments
University of California head men’s basketball coach Mike Montgomery has been reprimanded by the Pac-10 Conference for comments he made about the officiating following California’s games at Washington on Thursday, February 10, and at Washington State on Saturday, February 12, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
For those wondering about the comments, here they are:
"They don't care," Montgomery said about the Huskies. "They foul every time at every position and they aren't going to call it every time. So ultimately you are going to get worn down after a while. They are very physical because they are able to play nine guys throughout the game. They just do not care if they foul they are not going to let you get to the basket.

lol..
For some reason I see Mike laughing over a cup of coffee with the coaches right now..
That’s it? That’s weaksauce imo. “they aren’t going to call it every time” is the extent of his “critique,” and its very mild at that. No kidding they aren’t going to call every penalty – this is hardly a criticism, its an observation based in reality – the sun rises in the east, sets in the west. Cal has generally ugly cheerleaders, stanfurds are a lot uglier. Like, a lot uglier. These are all known and irrefutable statements. It’s not like he took them to task or one-upped the ref’s; he’s talking about how good/physical u dub is.
"The Pac-10 has specific rules that prohibit our coaches from making public comments about officiating, and this prohibition specifically includes comments that create doubts about the credibility of the Conference’s officiating program,"
What were his comments about officiating at WSU, since apparently he made a boo boo there also?

I don’t remember anything after the game, but he did get T’d up during the game. Dunno if that had anything to do with it.
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
"Create" doubt about the credibility of the officiating program?
Nothing Montgomery (or anyone else) can do at this point in time can “create” doubt; it has already existed for years.

Go Beavs!
Fuck the refs
If I were Monty I’d post an image of me flipping the bird and photoshop it front of some dumbass Pac-10 ref.
I have an anger problem
In other words, Go Bears!

The truth shall set you free
or in this case, get you reprimanded.
My big issue with the Pac 10 refs is the inconsistency. You’ll see a Cal-UA game one week where MSF gets a foul call for breathing on his man. Then the next week against UCLA or UW Kamp has to get elbowed upside the dome to get a foul called.
Historically the Pac 10 has a reputation for playing soft come tourney time. Does the Pac 10 officiating crew want to teach our kids to play tough wrestling matches, er…basketball like the Big Ten and Big East? Or do they want to have a watchable product where hand checks and pushes in the back get called? I wish they’d make a decision and stick with it.

For the record, when the Tattooed Thug elbowed Kamp upside the dome, no foul was called, and the Ref pointed at Kamp as if to say “you started it” (at least, that was Barry “The refs are always right” Tompkins’ opinion). Apparently playing physically is license to get clocked in the head, good to know.
Or do they want to have a watchable product where hand checks and pushes in the back get called?
I think I get what you’re saying, in that there will be more offense if there’s less contact, but to me, the excessive foul calling slows the game down and renders it even more unwatchable than it would be otherwise. Big Ten games are excruciating, but Big East games are enjoyable to watch.

Really?
Basically, Monty is talking about UW’s strategy and pointing out the unremarkable fact that not every foul will be called in a game.
Geez.
Yes, I am an Old Blue. Now get off my lawn.
Yup.
