FLASH: Cal Shuts Out Air Force

As the capstone to their appearance in this year's Las Vegas Invitational Tournament, Cal's rugby Bears blanked the Zoomies of the Air Force Academy 90-0.

The shutout avenges the loss suffered by the Bears in their last clash with Air Force when Cal lost the semifinal match of the 2003 USA Rugby championship to the Zoomies 46-28. Air Force went on to beat Harvard for the cup.

Double tries were racked up by four Cal ruggers including sophomore Seamus Kelly, senior Drew Hyjer and juniors Danny Barrett and Anthony Lombardo.

Junior Alex Aronson's boot was golden today as he converted 11 of 13, or 85 percent, of the Bears' tries as well as scoring an early first-half penalty kick.

Today's win is the fourteenth of the Bears' College Premier League preseason. To date, Cal has hung 872 points on its opponents and allowed only 38.
