Two bowls today, ladies and gents! Champs Sports (FSU v. ND) and Alamo (UW v. Baylor). These should be two interesting games.
First, Champs Sports pits two college blue bloods fallen upon hard times:
Kickoff: 5:30 pm EST Thu Dec 29, 2011
Long before national championships seemed to annually migrate to the SEC - and just prior to teams being selected for postseason play based on mysterious computer formulas - Florida State and Notre Dame ruled much of the 1990s.
About 18 years after the Seminoles and Irish had their own No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup, coaches Jimbo Fisher and Brian Kelly hope this Dec. 29 clash at the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando serves as a springboard for turning these storied programs back into superpowers.
Second, we have some Pac-12 action! The Huskies, who Cal nearly beat in Seattle, take on Baylor and their Heisman Trophy QB, RGIII:
Kickoff: 9:00 pm EST Thu Dec 29, 2011
Robert Griffin III has one year of eligibility remaining, but it’s quite possible the Alamo Bowl will be the final celebration of a brilliant collegiate career.
Baylor also hopes it will be the school’s first bowl victory in nearly 20 years.
The star quarterback - fresh off winning the program’s first Heisman Trophy - seems likely to summon one final prolific performance as the 15th-ranked Bears play a virtual home game Dec. 29 in San Antonio againstWashington.
The man known as "RG3" has carried Baylor back to college football relevance, setting 46 school records in the process, and he was rewarded with one of the most recognizable trophies in sports earlier this month.
Man am I happy Cal didn't go to the Alamo Bowl. I think that Baylor is going to slice and dice UW. But who knows??? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
