Jorge Destroys Nation's Leading Scorer, Cal Defeats Weber State 77-57.

This was a Jorge game. Gritty. Tough. Bloody noes and torn lips all-around. Effort and defense ruled the day. The Bears held the visiting Wildcats to just 6-35 in the first half, and eked out a 32-18 lead. How did the marquee match-up between America's #1 scorer and Sr. Gutierrez fare? Damian Lillard. Future NBA draftee. Two. Points.

It remained a tight contest through most of the 2nd half and the Bears only had a 48-38 lead with 10:33 to play in the second half. But like a python finally tightening its coils to choke the life out of its prey, Cal finished with a flurry and ran Weber State out of the gym for a final score of 77-57. Jorge finished with 24 points, 16 for Crabbe, and 11 points for Rchard Solomon.

Weber State's Damian Lillard was held to 14 points, or almost 16 points below his season's average.

After being somewhat sluggish moving the ball in the first half, the Bears were unselfish in the 2nd and steadily pulled away. But throughout the night, it was a persistent and relentless effort on defense that dominated this contest.

Mr. Lillard may be bound for bigger, greater, and brighter things. But for tonight, his casa belonged to Jorge.

Go Bears!
