Modern Warfare 3 launches today. It is the third Call of Duty game in the "Modern Warfare" sub-series, the fifth Call of Duty game developed by it's lead company Infinity Ward, and the seventh core title (not a spin-off) released so far in the Call of Duty series history.
The first Call of Duty was released in 2003.

Will Modern Warfare 3 break sales records again? We shall see in the near future, especially after this Holiday season.
With the release of Battlefield 3 two weeks ago, the first-person shooter genre with the two storied franchises going head-to-head. Any fan of either will be having plenty of fun for the time being.
As a fan of the whole genre myself, I personally enjoy both, but we can't let such level-headed thinking cloud our fanboyism now, can we.
Here's how I see it:
The action-arcadey lone-wolf player who is extremely reliant on twitch reflexes will enjoy CoD more.
The teamwork oriented player who wants to help in the battle outside of just killing other people will enjoy Battlefield more.
The player who is tired of the whole modern-era combat saga in first-person games will wait three more days for Skyrim.
