WS Game 7 update:
Former Cal Bears, Allen Craig gave the Cardinals the lead with a solo homer in the 3rd

and he just came around to score, after drawing an one out walk
not that I necessarily wants the Cardinals to win, but this could be another major professional champion this year with a Golden Bear tie

I'm here at the match tonight
Let’s beat the Bruins before we beat the Bruins and then beat them some more!

Glad to see the Bears back to full strength
Gehan, Corey Johnson, and Robin Rostratter are all in the starting lineup
by LEastCoastBears on Oct 28, 2011 7:04 PM PDT reply actions
Gehan is still only playing backrow only?
by LEastCoastBears on Oct 28, 2011 7:12 PM PDT up reply actions
she hasn't been very sharp with her passing
and Gehan has been the target of most UCLA serves

come on Bears
Cal uses their 2nd timeout, trailing 10-16 so far

Ugh, UCLA takes set 1, 25-17
Not sure if it’s just bad matchup or what, Bears can’t outhit UCLA’s blocks.
Go Bears!

We gave them that set. Too many unforced errors and mistakes. UCLA is just playing a cleaner game. If we tighten up the mistakes we should be able to take these guys.

UCLA up 11-7 in set 2, Cal with a timeout
Cal playing cleaner but fell victim to some great UCLA serves

Parrot in for Barrett
surprising but Barrett hasn’t been that sharp this game

This move by Feller has made a huge difference.

Cal up 18-17 and forces a UCLA timeout
Cal on a roll since Parrot came in

That's more like it, Bears take set 2, 25-20
match tied at 1-1
by LEastCoastBears on Oct 28, 2011 7:53 PM PDT reply actions
looking better in set 2
particularly after Parrot entered the game
to be fair, Cal immediately scored on a fluky play and that kind of kick started the set for the Bears
by LEastCoastBears on Oct 28, 2011 7:59 PM PDT up reply actions
would be interesting to see
whether Parrot or Barrett will be the starting setter for set 3

Furd update, Furd took the first two sets easily against U$C
25-18 and 25-14
by LEastCoastBears on Oct 28, 2011 7:58 PM PDT reply actions
Hmm, based on the conference standings that would actually be a good thing. Odd.

but UCLA has the lead right now at 14-11 to force a Cal timeout

18-16, UCLA up
Dunno how Cal is still in this set, but they’re hanging around somehow.

It's both good and disturbing to see Rich Fuller trying various things tonight
the previously injured Bears need to find their groove soon

Sounds like we might have to hope that everybody gets healthy in time to coalesce for an NCAA run this year.

with no clear dominant team this year
I don’t think winning the Pac-12 and getting one of the top 4 seed matters as much this year although it would obviously be great to win another Pac title (and win one outright, if possible…at this point, that will be quite hard)
by LEastCoastBears on Oct 28, 2011 9:05 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah, doesn’t matter right now. Get it together by the end and we’ll be in the hunt.

I was at the game, in the alumni band. UCLA played a great game, and I can’t fault anyone on the Cal team for the loss. Feller tried all sorts of looks, but Cal was still outplayed. The new UCLA coach is a bitch, though. He was working the refs like it was a men’s basketball game. He wouldn’t shut up, and was gnawing on the refs’ ears all night. I can’t say it worked though.
