good luck in Ithaca
even if the Ivy League football games that I have attended don’t quite resemble DI football at times

Can’t blame the kid.
You’re only young once, and he’s probably never going to be playing competitive football again after college. So who can blame the kid for wanting to actually get on the field and compete while he still can.
Passing up a Cal degree to do that at Podunk College would be irresponsible, but since he gets to attend a respectable school that still makes him marketable in his professional life, this is a smart move.
All the best to Beau.

He's a Sweeney... He'll coach HS Football in Fresno
Unless this kid has fallen out of the family tree he will end up coaching high school football in Clovis-Fresno area. Grandpa coached Fresno State for years, Dad played QB at Fresno under his dad…. oh, and another QB on that team was a skinny kid named Jeff Tedford.

Kind of harsh for the first-string QB to say Beau doesn’t throw the ball all that well. It may be true but still kind of harsh of him to say.
Blatant Misquote
…is misquoted.
Article actually reads: "He is unique because he can throw and run well. He’s a very good athlete and he’ll be on the field all year."
Marshawn Lynch would drive a cart around the field after the game to celebrate your mode and its beastliness, sir.

I’m glad to hear he’ll still get a degree from an elite university after leaving Cal.

Probably the same reason
That Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Oregon all offered him — they saw something in him.
Sometimes you hit, sometimes you miss. Unfortunately, we missed with Sweeney and Mansion.
Keeping January 2 open. You know, just in case.
