With the game this Saturday vs. Utah, we begin a stretch of 4 winnable (make that must win) games. I have long been an advocate of Coach Tedford and what he has accomplished since he RESCUED our football program. I am not a card carrying member of the "how come we’re not BCS contenders club." I am far more pragmatic as I was an undergrad in the 70's (Cal Band 72-75) and was a season ticket holder from 1976 until this year when the ticket prices and schedule were not attractive enough to keep me wanting more,. Give me a winning season, an opportunity to play in a bowl and I am a pretty happy camper.
Coach T deserves a lot of credit, as well, for his patience and perseverance with sub-standard facilities which are finally (praise Oski) a soon to be thing of the past. All that being said, if he cannot LEAD the current team to a minimum 6-6 record, then I say (with great sadness) it is time to turn the page and give someone else a chance. Our recruiting has been great but we are not converting that talent into wins. Much as was the case with Coach Braun in basketball, I do not see players getting better during their playing time under Coach T and that is what it takes to be a good solid program.
So 6-6 and even 7-5 are there for the taking – no more excuses, no more explanations. In the words of the American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, “What you do speaks so loudly, I cannot hear a word you say.”
