Woot!

Does anyone know if we are going to recruit an extra wide receiver because of Tevin Carter choosing not to play and Kaelin Clay’s academic questions. I thought we were originally targeting four wide receivers, and am wondering if we are now targeting five.

I support the NBA player's union.

it couldn’t be because the local school in bcs poll wears purple and lives in a place where it rains 2000% of the time.

This is Fetter right here: Obviously this commit is not making a smart decision, I mean, look at what the numbers say, I just doesn’t make sense. hahaha!

This guy knows what is better for these guys better then they do.

Fingers crossed Kline starts in 2012
“Man, that guy…his accuracy is unbelievable. That dude?…I trust Zach, let’s put it that way. I trust in the Zach attack.

“He really does remind me of a guy like Aaron Rodgers. I haven’t really said that to people and I don’t believe in getting caught up in too much hype but he does remind me of a guy like that.”

It is great to hear things like this

But I feel as a fan base we can’t be anointing him as a savior of the program (not saying you are). True freshman qbs rarely play at any school, particularly if the offense is a pro-style offense (thus not allowing someone to use their athletic ability to make plays). He is a 2012 recruit, but I can’t imagine he is considered for the starting position until 2014 (a redshirt sophomore). I just feel expectations for this kid are already becoming overblown and he hasn’t even signed yet.

I support the NBA player's union.

by chowder on Oct 16, 2011 10:24 PM PDT up reply actions

I know…but he’s coming in early (spring term)..

I have high hopes for Bridgford, but I don’t think he gets a real shot until Maynard either really shits the bed or Maynard graduates.

True. Just look across the Pac-12. Luck and Barkley weren’t all world when they started.

We’ll know if Tedford is still the QB guru with Kline. It appears he has the raw talent to really shine in a Tedford offense.

by Ryku on Oct 18, 2011 12:02 PM PDT up reply actions

Here's how it plays out...

Tedford’s mindset…just get through this season. Get to a bowl so they can get extra practice in, sign another monster class, and then spring it on the Pac 12. Let the Zachs fight it out.

There’s something on Ted’s ESPN blog about the #1 OL recruit decommitting from USC. Arik Armstead. Cal is in the mix of schools he’s interested in, but Ted seems to think Notre Dame has the inside track.

by slaphancock on Oct 17, 2011 2:33 PM PDT up reply actions

he wants to be a DE

Then, I’ll make a big ruckus, because I am a hypocritical asshole.

Seems like he’s a great fit on defense, with Rivals comparing him to Ed Reed and the “feisty cornerback” description. WR play seems ??? which to me at this point of my depression sounds like dropped passes.

From the Bear Insider article:

Dozier becomes the first of many Army All-Americans that have Cal in their top 3-5 schools to commit to Cal.

So, who knows of names this may be referring to?

by concordtom on Oct 16, 2011 11:29 PM PDT reply actions

For the guys that ultimately take Cal to the Rose Bowl....

From Bear Insider article:

“He told me today he was going to commit and I was extremely excited,” said Kline. “We need guys like him to put us on the road to the Rose Bowl and the national championship and be the best class that Cal’s ever seen. He’s a vital piece of that.”

You know what? The group of guys that gets Cal to it’s first Rose Bowl in 50+ years is going to go down in history in Berkeley, and it will become a national story. They will forever be worshipped in Berkeley and paraded around. They won’t just become alums destined to be forgotten amongst a crowd of other former players. For that reason, going to the Rose Bowl with Cal is going to be worth far more, monetarily and otherwise, in future years, as these guys age, than going Rose with any other school – for a couple reasons:

We have lots of money and business connections.
We haven’t been Rose in so long – there is a huge amount of pent up demand for heroes.

If Kline gets it done, after talking this talk while in high school….? I mean, you’ve got to be kidding me. He’s going to become a folk hero. Whoever else rides with him is in prime position for the same! The opportunity is tremendous.
