Quick hits from this week:
- Brennan Scarlett will not play due to a broken collarbone. Scarlett is schedule to announce his verbal commitment decision next Thursday.
- James Sample, Viliami Moala, and Colt Lyerla are scheduled to announce their verbal commitment decisions.
- Recruitniks have Sample to Washington, Lyerla to Oregon, and Moala to Cal.
- Rigsbee has been fighting off a fever before he arrived at San Antonio.
- Moala, Gibson, and Rigsbee became fast friends this week. Moala is kinda a goofball according to Rigsbee.
- Recruitniks gasped at the size of Moala (6-2, ~330lbs). He's gonna be a load for West upfront.
- Rigsbee practiced w/ a fever Monday and Tuesday at Center instead of Guard before leaving for the hospital.
- Gibson will be playing Defensive End instead of Outside Linebacker.
- Lyerla will be going both ways as Linebacker and Tight End.
Go Bears on 3 for all US Army All-Americans!!!

On the bright side, we get to see more West defense!

Kessler not looking very good...
Maybe he wasn’t a sure thing?
I dunno. Defenses usually dominate these first halves. Hard to tell anything until later on.

Kessler has been behind and late on WRs. He looks like he just learned something new this wk and is thinking too much.

Just me, or does Kessler look a bit like Kevin Riley?

% chance that Moala will commit to Cal?
Anyone know? Solarise? Avinash?

High
He still has his visit to Oregon State though.

Seems pretty high… Maybe 75-80%?
Really, the biggest question today seems to be, can we get Scarlett and/or McClure, right?

As Cal guys, we might want to wait to count our chickens

Sure, sure. I’m not saying anyone’s a lock until signing day. All I mean is that at this point, Scarlett and McClure look like the biggest question marks.

When we got Walls, it was pretty clear Sample would have to look elsewhere.

Shipley looked just like his brother on that route/TD catch. Is he going to Texas?

Rigsbee
Definatly a project, slow first step led him to get blown away three times that last drive.
Walls got beat by Shipley, but was in almost perfect position by the time the ball got there.

UCLA
Has been in the final three a few times but haven’t seen them get anyone so far.
Lyons to Furd?

No wonder Simmons was cut. Cal should have been in the mix for Lyons, who is a great student.

According to Rivals...
Cal never recruited Wayne. Is there something Cal knows that no one else knows?
by BearsOnAPlane on Jan 8, 2011 11:57 AM PST up reply actions
Sometimes getting on a sinking ship can be fun!
Based on Harbaugh’s comments yesterday on Chron Live/one of the Furd’s players’ quotes in the paper it seems like Roman will be the next coach. Oh well, as Neuheisel has shown 3 times, it only takes about two years to kill a program

Seminoles got a huge player in James Wilder. Damn. Stiff armed Atkinson and just ran over everyone on that TD.

A few things
- “I’m doing this for my Mom” Not for yourself? Really?
- “Tosh will be a defensive coordinator at some school soon”. Oh god I hope not. I hope he stays at Cal.
In other words, Go Bears!
That school could be Cal :).

They were just saying that Shaq couldn’t decide and would be declaring next week. We’re not in his final 3.
Wait, isn’t he a junior??

By Shaq you mean the 2012 commit and little bro of Syd right? Why would he not consider Cal after Syd’s four years at Cal?

He is considering Cal…

shaq
actually from everything i’ve heard we lead for shaq.
Possibly, but the only thing we know for sure is that we are in the mix.

Maybe mrjpark was talking about Ishaq Williams, and we’re thinking about Shaq Thompson…

Yeah, but Shaq is a teammate of Moala and Sample, and we’re in the running for him, not Ishaq, so I think people are just excited and hopeful we can get him too.

Thompson?

by solarise on Jan 8, 2011 12:49 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
I’d surprised if Cal is out of it for Shaq Thompson. NCAA has new rules in place for recruiting Juniors btw. “Contact” is strictly regulated. If Shaq hasn’t heard from Tedford & Co for awhile it’s because we play by the rules.
