Last night, I went to an "MBA night" at a wine bar in SF last night. As I got to the bar with a buddy (my wingman), I got a glass of wine and sat back for a second, talked to the host (bartender), and then scoped out the scene. While I was doing this, a sleazy recruiter approached me without any indication of interest from my side (the grenade). I wanted to disengage from conversation so that I could talk to better prospects, but it was tough to shake him. Eventually, I had to give him a fake phone number to get him to leave.
Now with the clear path, I saw two Georgetown alumni that were standing there, talking to each other, but not to any prospective MBA candidates. I turned to my buddy and came up with a strategy to split those two up so that we could each get advice from MBA students from a school we liked (hit on them). It was at this point that I realised how strategies for picking up girls from bars (or anywhere else, really) can be applied to real life. Making eye contact, exuding confidence, showing some (but not too much) interest, finding a common point to talk about, etc.
And now for some links!
