Cal Uniform Combination Sequence

Based on what I've seen so far this year, it looks like the Bears might use the same uniform combinations in sequence as they did last year. Here's what I could find from 2009:

Cal vs. Maryland - blue jersey, blue pants (Win)
Cal vs. Eastern Washington - blue jersey, gold pants (Win)
Cal at Minnesota - white jersey, white pants (Win)
Cal at Oregon - white jersey, blue pants (Loss)
Cal vs. USC - gold jersey, blue pants (Loss)
Cal at UCLA - white jersey, gold pants (Win)
Cal vs. Washington State - blue jersey, gold pants (Win)
Cal at Arizona State - white jersey, white pants (Win)
Cal vs. Oregon State - gold jersey, white pants (Loss)
Cal vs. Arizona - blue jersey, blue pants (Win)
Cal at Stanfurd - white jersey, white pants (Win)
Cal at Washington - white jersey, white pants (Loss)
Cal vs. Utah (Poinsettia Bowl) - blue jersey, blue pants (Loss)

So far this season we've seen this:

Cal vs. UC Davis - blue jersey, blue pants (Win)
Cal vs. Colorado - blue jersey, gold pants (Win)

I suspect tomorrow at Reno we'll see the Golden Bears in white jerseys and white pants, since that's what we wore to our first road game last season in Minnesota. Plus, it's what we wore to 4 out of the 6 road games last season.

If I were superstitious I'd say we should think twice before wearing that white jersey with blue pants combination (pasting at Oregon last year) and the yellow jersey with white pants combination (vs. Oregon State when Jahvid Best was injured). I also don't know how I feel about the sunshine combo (gold jersey, gold pants) last worn vs. Oregon (who wore all white) at home in 2008 in the pouring rain of the flood bowl, which, by the way, was a win.

Anyway, I like the all-white look, especially when it looks like this:

Oh, and for the record, I like that we only use one helmet, the blue helmet with yellow Cal script, unlike those clowns up in Eugene that use no less than four different colored helmets (green, white, black and steel) or Arizona, which apparently is going to use a navy helmet with no stripes and a white helmet with a red stripe and a blue stripe. I didn't even realize it, but even Wazzu uses two different helmets too, silver for home games and red for road games. I love the Gold jerseys (now) – but I didn’t initially.

I do wish we’d go back to wearing them for big games, though. I don’t think Oregon State qualifies.

We were undefeated in yellow tops before last year, IIRC. Last year was a bad year for yellow.

So that means we’re 0-2 with the white/blue combination and only scored 3 points in them each game. I have a feeling we might be avoiding those this year.

And I only see us wearing the Gold jerseys against Oregon, maybe a (god willing) bowl game. I initially thought UCLA, but that doesn’t appear to be a not-Big Game big game now. Maybe they’ll wear it during the Big Game for once?

Also… Wazzu has had 2 helmet colours for like 30 years or something. I think they were one of the first (if not the first) big conference teams to really make that a tradition.

I've said it before ...

I’m not a big fan of the single-color unis. Blue shirt/Yellow pants or Yellow shirt/Blue pants is the only thing we ought to wear at home. The white pants don’t look right for a home game regardless of shirt. We don’t have white in our colors, why have the white pants?

In any case, the blue/yellow combo just looks good. Classic. And the contrast really does stand out pretty flash.

The all-white on the road is okay, I guess. Though white/yellow looks pretty good, too.

Of all the combos, yellow-yellow looks the absolute worst. Just an Oregon abomination.
