"The reason I didn't want to talk about it is because for some people, it sounds like an excuse. That situation normally should make a person work harder or try harder. But I guess I just wasn't quite ready for that -- for her to be going through that. Now that it's over with and she's back 100 percent healthy again, that's the real motivating thing for me right now, to get back and make something happen."

That’s so sad, and so crazy. Good to hear she’s healthy and recovering. I’m in the cancer field and I’ve never even heard of Wilms’ tumor.

The pastor of the church that planted the one I attend has a 5 year old going through this right now. Same type of tumor. Did the chemo, and thought it was gone, but it came back a few months later. Really gnarly, and she’s one of the cutest kids I’ve ever seen with the best attitude about everything. http://prayfordaisy.com/

This is one of the best things I’ve heard of in a while. If im in hagans shoes last year footballs the last thing on my mind. Im very happy for him and how his life is turing the corner. This was a true feel good story and all he needs now is to be drafted to make it sound like a movie. Very proud of him it takes a strong man to overcome all of that.

Sometimes it is so easy for us to sit at our laptops and criticize endlessly witohut a full appreciation of the facts available to us. My thoughts and prayers are with the Hagan family.

This is news to me. Wow. That explains quite a few things. I’m rooting like crazy for this guy this year.
And may his daughter stay in good health for a very long time!

What should not get lost in this piece is that YO actually broke a story.

I'm Team Hagan
Very happy to hear that the trouble times are behind Darian and things are looking up for him and his family. I can’t imagine what it was like being in his shoes.
Go Bears!

Wow. She sounds like a champion! Really encouraging to see that it all worked out in the end but I can’t imagine how difficult it would be for Hagan as a father 400 miles away. Even more reason for not only us but his teammates and coaches to pull for him now.
Stories like this, the freshmen stepping up, Sofele filling some big shoes with a big heart, etc make me a lot more intrigued by the potential of this year’s team and eager for the season to get underway (even more so than in years past).
Oh my god. I am not going to pretend like I know what he went through but oh my god it must have been torturous for me. I am extremely impressed with both Hagans, Darian for battling through his tough times and coming back and with his daughter for battling through her illness. I am and forever will be a Darian Hagan #26 fan.
In other words, Go Bears!
I wonder how JT must feel about this, considering that, according to the article, even he was unaware of what Darian was going through. Here’s to hoping he has a breakthrough season – he certainly deserves it.
i'm here to clean your pool but i don't have a pool *bowchica bowow*
I was thinking a recent evening went something like this:
Donna Tedford (DT): “Hi honey, how was practice?”
Jeff Tedford (JT): “OK, except that the weasal YO is digging around the private lives of my players.”
DT: “Umm, OK. He’s a reporter, if I recall?”
JT: “Yes.”
DT: “OK then, well maybe if had a football practice to watch and write about he wouldn’t be texting the mother and partner of your starting right corner.”
JT: (grumbles) “Hey, did you send in my donation to Queen Meg’s campaign?”

For the epic win.
Let’s enjoy this season with him, and get his ass drafted so he can support that little girl!

If he gets drafted, I think he can afford something higher than Zales.

Time to bring back Ohio Bear’s nickname for Hagan: Darian the Barbarian. Here’s hoping for a well-deserved excellent season and maybe a little NFL love afterward.
Costs STILL assessed against Twist
….wow, I gave him that nickname on CGB first, asshohiole!

Thanks. This is a moving story, both his daughters fighting through illness and his fighting through school — proud of them both! I will pay special attention to him this year.
As a recent father, I can still only begin to imagine what he was going through.
This inspired me to put my daughter Grace up as my id icon.
