I’ll certainly give Monty credit, although he may have gotten a bit lucky to inherit five sophomores talented, smart and loyal enough to stick around and graduate, but not so talented to leave early for the NBA. But still, very well done!

The basketball team climbed from 944 to 967 on the four-year score through the 2008-09 school year, biggest improvement of any Cal program. Mike Montgomery’s squad reported a one-year score of exactly 1,000, one of 10 Cal sports to score 1,000 or more for the most recently compiled single year.
