FLASH: Cal Beats Notre Dame To Stay Atop Tournament Standings


Cal's rugby Bears scored another victory in the inaugural college sevens championship after taking down the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame 17-7 this afternoon.

Derek Asbun earned all of Cal's tries, scoring a hat trick by the 11th minute of the match. Keegan Englebrecht converted one of Asbun's three tries.  
 

The win keeps Cal atop the Pool A table and in the overall championship standings after 13 of 24 preliminary matches have been contested. Earlier in the day, San Diego State shut out Indiana 26-0, Tennessee blanked Florida 32-0, Army was edged 12-15 by Arizona State and Navy succumbed to Arizona 14-19.

Next up for the Bears is a 2 pm (Pacific) contest against Dartmouth which will broadcast libe by NBC-TV.
