Great Map To Help Imagine Expansion Scenarios

Ironically, I moved to Austin three days ago—just in time to hear all of the Big XII Pac X marriage rumors from the Longhorns’ pov. Being in a new state coupled with all of this talk about realignment and long flights from Norman to Seattle has me thinking about and looking at maps. Here’s a cool map I found that can help visualize some of the proposed realignments. When people talk about long flight times to the West Coast being a deal-breaker, all I can think is “Poor, poor, Louisiana Tech.” Hawaii too. But they’re in Hawaii and their travel troubles are well documented. Seems like there’s a story on TV once a year about how they fly out so early for games and stay on the mainland for two weeks etc. But LA TECH? Not so much.  Looking at this map is fun. Tell me stuff that you notice. Like for instance—I always thought that the Big East was totally epic, and yet, South Florida to Syracuse doesn’t look much farther than USC to Seattle. Print them out and circle constellations of helmets, forming your own brand new conferences. Congratulations, Colorado, you’re now a member of the Mountain West. You’re surrounded.

P.S. Austin is awesome, but Austin makes Bears bitter. Walk around muttering about Mack Brown.
