Not even bothering to watch
If Duke wins I’ll be in hell, and if Duke loses they’ll make the game an ugly scrum. I’m better off pretending to do stuff.

Not to be contrary but I would rather face the off-season having lost to the eventual National Champion Duke rather than having lost to a Duke team that lost to a mid-major. So for Cal’s rep, I am pulling for the Dukies. Not that I have any love for them.
FUCK DUKE.
That is all.

You guys do realize that if Duke wins...
Our excuse will be that we lost to the eventual 2010 NCAA Champs.
None the less, seeing them lose would be far more satisfying.

I’d be so happy to lose to the eventual loser to the eventual 2010 NCAA Champs!!

It is the 2010 NCAA Championships his year, right?
I never know how the dating works with these.

Excuses...
People like fans of Duke and Stanfurd live by excuses.
Sack up andFGull for Butler.

This is actually quite true.

I don’t think our MBB team this year needs any excuses. They did a really good job.
I hate Duke so much, there is nothing that could get me to root for them.
I agree that they did too.
I’m just saying if someone walks up and asks us how we did and they fire back saying that their team did better, at least we could say that.
But whatever. It’s still weaksauce.

So easy a caveman could do it?

dogfight
slug fest, inconsistent refs…first they let everything go, then they start calling them….butler impressive, singler is going to have to win it for duke, or smith….for butler it’s going to have to be hayward
Not flagrant?
He stepped completely in front of him!

Did ANY of us expect a flagrant?

butler can shoot the 3
they haven’t taken many 3s in the second half, but they can hit them
will Cal get into One Shining Moment?
I’m thinking Max Zhang and the block!
Should!
Win vs Louisville!

Dr. Sous — chef made you work through our game, but gave you the night off for Duke/Butler? Is he a sadist?
Man, he almost made THAT shot.

What was Zoubek thinking missing that
Only thing Butler could’ve tried was a 3 anyway. They deserved to lose for that nonsense.

Better chance to win if he missed.
A rebound off of a FT miss is going to run more clock than an inbound, plus less time to organize a play.

Worst thing would’ve been overtime. You keep the opportunity for worst loss ever open with a 2 point lead.

If Scheyer had been tossed for his accidental elbow of Christopher we’d have been the champs!

as much as i wanted duke to lose good thing that half court shot didn’t go in or else i’d be screaming in the library
The worst part is I would've so bet on Duke to win it all
They had the most value going into the tourney with the weakest draw and biggest odds. But Cal ended up in their bracket. I could deal with the Duke hate, just not betting against Cal.
Ugh. Lame.

Is anyone watching the Mike Montgomery interview?
Is there a post-game thread I’m not in right now?

well the good news is...
…Cal can say they lost to the National Championship
The bad news is, everyone in the world (except those who live in north carolina) was rooting for butler, and they almost got it done
college basketball season officially over…ugh
IS FOUR MONTHS AWAY!!!
I CAN’T EVEN SNIFF IT.

Mike Montgomery on KPIX interview after the game
Did anyone else notice how he forgot Alex Rossi’s name when talking about the new guys coming in. All he could muster at the end was “kid out of Chicago”.
I guess it happens to us all and is forgiveable.
Coaching rotations
Coach K takes the Nets job simply for the $15M per year.
Uconn’s women’s coach Auriemma begs for the Duke job but since everyone hates his guts he has to apologize to Storrs to get his job back, and Duke hires Johnny Dawkins back to his alma mater.
Stanford goes after Butler’s wunderkid coach, but he gets a fat contract extension and stays, leading to Stanford grabbing every-waiting St. Mary’s coach Randle Bennett. But this causes Stanford’s prized recruit Dwight Howard to reconsider and he eventually demands out of his promise b/c the coach has changed – and he decides to come to Cal, a team he once considered.
Crabbe and Howard turn out to be the second coming. Franklin is serviceable at the 1.
Cal surprises and makes a Sweet 16 run, and then we bring in two more 4 star recruits in 2011, including 6’11", 250 pound Zade Shankovich from New England. He says he has seen Coach Montgomery do great things, that he wants a great education and is tired of the cold dreary winters. Also incoming are a top PG from Pheonix who is really fast, can penetrate the lane and dish all day long, Flash Meeder.
So with a starting lineup in Nov 2011 of:
1) Franklin – Sophomore
2) Gutierrez – Senior
3) Crabbe – Sophomore
4) Powell – Sophomore
5) Shankovich – Freshman
and depth of:
1) Meeder – Freshman
2) Rossi – Sophomore
3) Amoke – Senior
4) Kamp, Solomon – Senior, Sophomore
5) Max – Senior
the Cal Bears are poised for a return to the Sweet 16 and the future looks ever brighter.
At the end of it all, Kamp reflects at graduation that, considering he lost his starting job to Powell and Shankovich, he wishes he had played in 2010 in order to help Cal win a few more games, including the Pac 10 tournament title, get a better seeding, and advance to the Elite 8 after upsetting #2 seed Villanova. After which, by the way, Randy Bennett would have thanked his East Bay brethren for avenging the team that took him out when he was still back at St. Mary’s.
