New Alums, time to step to the plate!
As we discussed during our interview with Cal Athletics Senior Major Gifts Officer Monica Lebron, times are getting tough for Cal. Whether on the academics side or the athletics side, everybody is hurting.
Of course, the people least likely to be able to donate large sums of money are the young alums. Just out of college, they do not always have vast sums of money at their disposal to donate. Fortunately, for us young poors, Cal is stocked full of magicians and we don't need to drown anybody in a lake to prove it. Us young alums just have donate any sum of money and it will magically increase by three!
Yes, read more about the New Alumni Challenge:
The New Alumni Challenge invites all undergraduate and graduate alumni from the Classes of 2005 through 2010 to participate in a first-ever 3:1 match for all contributions up to $1,000. That means a donation of $25 (when combined with the $75 match) will equal $100 for Cal, while $1,000 will increase to $4,000! Every gift you make up to $1,000 — no matter what size — will help preserve the vital programs that directly impact the Berkeley experience.
Remember who is eligible:
Who’s eligible?
- All undergraduate and graduate alums from the Classes of 2005 to 2009
- All undergraduate and graduate students who graduate in spring 2010
You can donate to the Athletic General Fund as recommended by Monica Lebron by selecting that option in the drop down menu. You can also search for "Marching Band" in the search box to find Marching Band-related funds as recommended by the staff at the California Golden Blogs. It doesn't matter who you donate to, because as long as you donate to Cal in any way there, it'll be tripled. Then, everybody is a winner! Except for Stanford. GO BEARS!
The opinions expressed in a FanPost are, in every way, reflective of the opinions of every California Golden Blogs Marshawnthusiast. Moreover, they are reflective of every employee of SBNation, including Tyler "Blez" Bleszinski.

Dear Cal Athletic Department,
I will happily donate $25 if you give a reporter from CaliforniaGoldenBlogs.com a press pass and regular access to press events.

I’m so glad I don’t even qualify for this. Otherwise I may have felt compelled to donate.

I don’t really want to donate.

Again we non-alums get shat upon.
I’ll still donate, regardless.

That last sentence in the second paragraph needs some work. We young alums, not “us”. Also, have to donate, and factor of three.
Also, this post makes me sad that I don’t get to be considered a “new alum” anymore :( I guess that makes me “old”. Sads.

Is there any word on who is doing the matching?
I’m planning to donate, but can’t afford the full $1k, so I was going to ask some older Cal alum coworkers to contribute in order to maximize the funds matching.
