Who wouldn't want to spend a summer weekend in Columbus, Ohio?
Let me rephrase that.
If you had the chance to watch Cal play seven-a-side rugby against a bevy of marquee schools, are willing to run the risk of being seen on national television and snag some seats for your crew at half-price, would you spend a summer weekend in Columbus?
There's a "buy one, get one free" ticket deal on offer for the inaugural College Sevens Championship Invitational Tournament June 4-6 at Columbus Crew Stadium. Stick around for the details.
A total of thirty-eight matches -- yes, 38; halves are only seven minutes long -- will be played over the three-day tourney, including 14 broadcast live on NBC-TV and Universal Sports.
Cal will square off in Pool A play against Harvard (Friday, June 4 at 3:50 pm Pacific Time), Notre Dame (Saturday, June 5 at 9:00 am Pacific Time) and Dartmouth (Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 pm Pacific Time; broadcast on NBC-TV).
Sunday, June 6, could be busy for the Bears as three wins in the quarter-final, semi-final and championship matches will be needed to cart the hardware home to Berkeley. The semi-final championship match will be broadcast on Universal Sports at 12:00 noon Pacific Time. NBC-TV carries the chamionship final at 2:15 pm Pacific Time.
Here's the just-announced pool set-up:
California, Harvard, Notre Dame, Dartmouth
San Diego State, Tennessee, Florida, Indiana
Army, Arizona, Navy, Arizona State
Utah, Penn State, Ohio State, Bowling Green
Now, for those BOGO tickets. Point your browser to www.usasevenscci.com and buy your tickets using the promotional code rugbybogo. You've only got 'til 7 am (Pacific Time) on April 19 to take advantage of the offer.
Of course, you can always save yourself the travel and ticket expense to watch the action on TV in the comfort of your own home, but would that be as much fun?
