Reason for WNBA Optimism: "University of California, Berkeley’s Alexis Gray-Lawson Receives the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award"
"Alexis Gray-Lawson, a 5’8" guard from the University of California, Berkeley, is the 2010 recipient of the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award, presented annually by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to the nation's outstanding female collegian 5-feet-8-inches and under who has excelled both athletically and academically."
The award itself is of course an honor, but as Swish Appeal looks forward to the WNBA draft, one thing that caught my eye is what this means for her draft stock: 3 of the past winners of this award are on Team USA (Becky Hammon playing for Russia), 6 of 12 selected were WNBA starters in 2009, and 10 of 12 were contributors in the WNBA.
Not a bad track record and good company for Gray-Lawson to fall into.

Thanks for post that! It’s so nice to see Lexi get much-deserved recognition.

Huh…I didn’t know such an award existed, particularly with height as a criteria, but if somebody’s gonna win it, may as well be Lexi!

You know, I didn't know it existed either....
But you’re right, I can’t even imagine a better candidate…
…well, maybe 5’7" Eliza Pierre in 3 years? :)
