they bring to mind a toxic combination of:
1. UCLA’s grab and push tactics backed up by coach intimidating refs
2. Stanford’s privileged arrogance
3. media love for East coast teams
4. all those annoying white people
but you have to give them credit today for contesting Cal’s shots and playing very disciplined and focused on their game. Hopefully Cal settles down and draws on seniors composure and endurance.

That’s pretty much why I’m on my Fuck Duke campaign. That was the most bullshit call ever. HOW WAS THAT IN THE ACT OF SHOOTING? He had just picked up his dribble. The refs are confident he was going to shoot it no matter what? You got to be kidding me.

And they are playing well – getting good shots, making them; forcing Cal into bad shots (or letting Cal take them anyway); using their advantages (size, skills).

Duke is bigger, they are crashing the boards, and flooding the lane. Cal has to counter by sending everyone to the rim to secure the rebounds, which yields no fastbreak points. Offensively, Cal has been tentative, had poor ball movement, and forcing shots. Cal’s defense broke down for about five minutes (possibly a result of their poor offensive showing) allowing Duke’s perimeter players wide open shots, which is when they gained their cushion.

We’re not playing smart basketball. We’re playing way too much 1v1, no ball movement, no teammate awareness, lack of communication on D. It’s all us. Duke’s just taking advantage of our mistakes and they’re doing quite a good job with it.
That Christopher thing was a huge buzzkill though. My only hope is that was the big thing that threw their games off in the first half.

Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer has agreed to an eight-year, $184 million contract extension.
Mauer has won three AL batting titles and an MVP award. He is considered one of the best defensive catchers in the game. Last year he hit .365 with 28 home runs and 96 RBIs to help the Twins win the AL Central division.

You’re clearly skilled in interpreting the speech of lower primates. Did you take an elective during law school?
First of all, this is a stupid argument because Montgomery didn’t recruit most of these guys, and that he turned them into a tournament team despite no size and no depth is a credit to him, not a demerit.
Second,
Wilkes – Decided to graduate
Anderson – NBA
Harrison – Injured, career over
Kamp – Injured, lost for season
Amoke – Behavior issues, no idea what actually happened
Bak – Academics, possibly having difficulty transitioning to college, probably wasn’t going to contribute anyway.
Right there are 6 of the 9 biggest players Cal could possibly had eligible this year, leaving just Boykin, Sanders-Frison (not in optimal shape, foul-prone) and Zhang (inexperienced).
This Cal team was always going to be less than complete in some areas, but to try and pin it on Montgomery is just ignorant. At most you could blame him for Amoke and Bak, and without knowing all the details of those situations, I’d be reluctant to do even that.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

So how close would this game be if they called it even? We’re not playing well enough to be winning, but this would be a pretty close game if they called it well.
We’d probably still be down 6 or so. Like you said, we’re not moving the ball of shooting well enough to deserve to be winning.
This is true.
Even if we weren’t getting called for touch fouls, they still have rebounding advantage on us. And a lot of our shots have been open misses.

We simply haven’t been playing well and that we (well, the players and Monty) have control over that.

Hard to say. If the game were called even, we’d have gotten more trips to the line and maybe our shooters could’ve gotten going. If Duke had any idea they would get called for a foul for it, they might not have been draped all over our players like they were.

It has felt pretty uneven in the terms of the ticky-tackness of fouls. And I really hate the “refs favored one team over the other” but it felt like we were getting hit on a large number of shot attempts and then getting called for reaches and touches on the other end.
We’d still be losing if it were even though.
It’s pretty stupid. Lots of touch fouls called on us, while they get to pummel our guys down low without being called.
Example: MSF was being shoved in the paint by Zoobeck and the second he throws his chest back, its the fifth foul called on MSF.

Well, you know, we did get a lot of the shots we wanted. Just didn’t fall, and then we couldn’t keep them off the o-boards. They’re a disciplined smart team, and Singler is a hell of a player and Nolan Smith carved us up.

Kyle Singler is whiter than his jersey, which I think is hilarious.
This was a painful game to watch. Looked like some really bad decision making by our guys, especially MSF. I hope Max can make some nice strides for next season, because I’m not a huge fan of the way MSF plays. Too bad our seniors had to go out on a game like that.

Duke was a better team throughout the game… Cal had a chance, but didn’t capitalize on those opportunities. Not sure how PC’s presence early in the game would have changed the game, having been dominated in the paint like that. Glad that Nikola got some game time in his last career game. Great job seniors, we’ll miss you.
Well, now I know why everyone hates Duke.
I have a friend who goes to Duke, but fortunately he’s not that big of a sports fan and he isn’t a douche (or at least I hope he hasn’t been converted).
I had two good friends attend Duke. One was Asian and HATED it. Said it was the worst decision of her life. Racism, etc. etc. And she’s from Texas.
The other – she really liked her time there, but she always felt isolated – being one of about 50 black people on campus. She does know Shane Battier and Elton Brand well (She says “At Duke, all the black people know each other”)
Tough loss
losing Christopher early really put bears out of sync. Glad to see Cal had a good season, would have loved to see them move on. just didn’t have the size and depth. Montgomery had done a great job so far. F duke and $c, know we can agree on that.

I think everyone here can agree that we will miss PC, Jerome, Jamal, Theo, and Nikola greatly. They really helped bring respect back to the Cal basketball program. The groundwork has now been laid for a perennial Pac 10 and national contender IMO. Montgomery is a terrific recruiter, and we will get to see the CA High School Player of the Year, and three other great recruits, coming in next year. Montgomery is going to eventually lead us to Sweet 16s, and final fours, and hell maybe even a National Championship. But we should never forget the 2009-2010 season, when we rode our seniors to a feat that hadn’t been accomplished in 50 years, and now see ourselves a very respectable program once again.
Now looking forward to Football Season! GO BEARS!
