CBS

I’m nitpicking or whatever, but I wish they would put two games on every time slot. They could be afraid of Kansas and Baylor both blowing out their respective opponent, so that’s why they have three games on at that time.

They've done that 1-2-3-2 setup forever

I can’t explain it. Why not just have two “morning” venues and two “evening” venues? Why would you ever make a one-off national game when you don’t have to? If the game’s a blowout, you lose viewers for no reason.

Wright

He’s opting to go without Antonio Pena in the starting lineup. That’s different because he has started just about every game, I think. He didn’t score against Robert Morris, so that could be a small reason at least.

Samhan can take advantage of his youth. Yarou is a freshman and only began starting games late into the season.

He left when Saint Mary’s had a 17-11 lead. Villanova scores six straight points and he comes back in. Saint Mary’s then goes on a 10-2 run.

Wow

Ball is knocked out of Samhan’s hands, bounces off the foot of a Villanova player just before he falls out of bounds right to another Villanova player. Over to the other end, bad pass bounces off the Villanova defender, hits the ref instead of going out of bounds, and again bounces straight to a Villanove player who’s standing right at the three-point line.

That’s officially the luckiest play I’ve ever seen.

I guess that’s the problem with the tournament. These are the only games I’ve seen the Big East play (except Cal-Syracuse), and they have looked extremely unimpressive.

Syracuse, WVU, and Georgetown are the true class of the Big East. Obviously the Hoyas looked terrible, but I think that game was the perfect storm. Ohio played the game of their lives and G-town had a bad game. Marquette, Villanova, Notre Dame are kind of middling. I don’t really believe in Pitt, but they can play well in stretches.

Duke is a very efficient team on both ends though. We’re going to need a huge off game from some of their big guys, especially Singler and Scheyer.

Email: bearsnecessities@gmail.com

by Avinash on Mar 20, 2010 2:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Duke

When I look at them, our biggest challenge will probably be their big man by the name of Brian Zoubek. He’s seven-foot-two. He’s not really a threat offensively, but we need to keep him off the glass. They have two other big men, Miles Plumlee and Lance Thomas, that Jamal Boykin can deal with. Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith and Jon Scheyer are not athletic. Robertson can stay with Singler, Christopher is bigger than Smith and Randle should be fine against Scheyer since Scheyer won’t use the height to his advantage.

How does the other team get free throws after you commit an offensive foul after they give you, the team that committed an offensive foul, the basket? That might be more ridiculous than the intentional foul ruling.

Saint Mary's-Baylor

If that is the game in the third round, which it more than likely will be, it will be interesting. I wonder how Saint Mary’s and their young guards will Tweety Carter and LaceDarius Dunn of Baylor. Also, Omar Samhan will be tested this time. Baylor has a really good big man by the name of Ekpe Udoh. Udoh had 20 points and 13 rebounds against Sam Houston State and averages 14 points and 10 rebounds on the season. Also, 3.8 blocks is very impressive.

The Ultimate Opportunist

by Rated-R Superstar on Mar 20, 2010 3:46 PM PDT reply actions

Udoh

With that said, he’s scoreless against Old Dominion and Baylor still has a 10-point lead at halftime. He has five rebounds, at least.

Carter and Dunn have 24 of the team’s 38 points.

Pullen

He’s pretty deadly from deep. Plus, he was on the Big 12 All-Defensive Team and the All-Big 12 First Team.

I’ve been out and about pretty much the entire last 32 hours, so I’ve spent the last half hour or so reading through all of the various post game comments. Few things give me a better feeling than reading all of the reveling comments after a particularly satisfying win – it’s great fun to relive it through CGB. Man I love basketball.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
