Thank goodness Butler finally woke up. They had me worried there for a while.

Damn me and my conservatism

At one point in my bracket, I had Old Dominion, St. Mary’s, and Murray St. all pulling off upsets. Then I decided that I didn’t want that many and changed them. Ugh.

by GeoFreak on Mar 18, 2010 3:44 PM PDT reply actions

And I also picked UTEP to the Sweet 16, and now they’re about to lose…

I’d be leading my dorm pool too, since most other people just picked chalk. This is only the second year I’ve done a bracket, so perhaps I’ll learn from this (like not listening to ESPN or CBS).

by GeoFreak on Mar 18, 2010 4:11 PM PDT up reply actions

UTEP

I, too, had them going there. I am disappointed, but I didn’t really change anything from my original picks. Oh, well, I guess. Sometimes you reach or go the non-conventional route and it doesn’t pay off.

I’m excited about Washington-Marquette. That’ll be a good game. I have Washington going to the Sweet 16.

Washington-Marquette

It will be an interesting game. I can easily see it going either way. I picked Marquette to win their entire region, though, with wins over New Mexico, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

I think WVU is a good team. I think in my CGB bracket I had them beating Kentucky and going to the Final Four.

Good Call

West Virginia would have been my second choice to win that region. The only team that can beat them is Marquette, I think. I have Kentucky out on Saturday.

The Ultimate Opportunist

by Rated-R Superstar on Mar 18, 2010 4:10 PM PDT up reply actions

I think Kentucky is an Elite 8 team, not because they’re good, but because they have a weak draw. Unless you think Temple can beat them…

Yes

I think Texas, Wisconsin, Temple and Cornell can beat them. Control tempo and make Kentucky beat you in the half-court like Mississippi State almost did twice this season. The difference is that those other teams are better than Mississippi State.

The Ultimate Opportunist

by Rated-R Superstar on Mar 18, 2010 4:17 PM PDT up reply actions

I don’t think Texas, Wake, or Wisco are any good. Kentucky isn’t very good at basketball, but they have very talented athletes. I think it’ll take a West Virginia to knock them out, though Temple might have a shot.

Eh

I think I’d rather play Louisville and then Duke as opposed to Marquette and then New Mexico. We’d eventually get bounced by West Virginia in that region. At least in our current region, we could even draw a Siena or Texas A&M.

8-16 is 50%, which is pretty good, but 8 threes in a half shouldn’t be enough to take down G-town.

ESPN

I like that they don’t have a double standard. The Big East is 1-3 in the tournament so far and they are calling them out a little bit. This past college football season, the Pac-10 was the best conference and then had a bad bowl season collectively. Of course, they were gone-after by ESPN by it. At least they are consistent.
