Can those who can watch the press conference please recap it for those of us stuck at work? Thanks.

All LBs have a chance to make an impact right away. Forbes and Wilkerson on the inside, Martin and Whiteside on the outside. He sees Martin as a Zack Follett-style LB.
Greyshirt?
What was that – he said at the start that "someone" was going to take a bit longer to get academic stuff wrapped up and so would grey shirt and start in January of next year?
When did you know, Jeff?
King, pretty much knew he was in the mix for a good while, but Keenan and guys (McCain, Maynard..) only said so on Monday, 2 days ago.
Hinder
- Great bloodline, grandson of Jim Hanifan
- Agile and mobile QB
- Quck learner (soaks it up right away)
- Needs physical dev (most likely will redshirt)
Question about so many qb's in the pipeline
“Austin Hinder… blah blah blah good stuff said – needs to devt physically, still very thin, highly competitve. He can roll left and make great throws or pull it in and run 60-70 yards.
You always try to have 5 QB’s on scholarship and hope to always have lots of competition. "
hopes to have cream rise to the top and take it over. Austin prob won’t compete for playing time as frosh, and also needs to develop
Question about center
Adcock blah blah blah…
missed other stuff.
Crosswaite will prob stay at guard or tackle
Center Question
- Adcock or Crosthwaite
- Adcock plays at low pad level
- Crosthwaite most likely at OG or OT
Cal vs other teams in Pac10
went head to head with USC moreso this year than any other, in terms of getting guys.
not sure if our guy Berkelium97 is there…mods? You there? Buehler?

Can we pls get over the which LB starts right away next year question?
We’ve gone over this. Move on.
guys with chance to play as frosh?
Trajuan and Gabe King were mentioned, then he said they “all do”.
Besides LBers, thinks Briggs and King will compete for playing time right away….

In addition to the LB, Gabe King and maybe Trajuan have opportunity to potentially contribute next year.
Does that mean Trajuan isn’t RSing?
Someone ask
“Tedford, is it fair to say you are the most accurate QB in the program?”
Tedford: “No, that’s the pride of UC Davis…WR coach Kevin Daft.”

Construction of New Facilities
Tedford
- helped a lil bit w/ recruiting
- won’t realize the full benefit ’til it finishes
can someone add about Allen playing WR & S
"We lose to Stanford in many sports, but if you want to make a Cal team quit, bring a weapon."
--Coach Clark
both?
Is that a rumor? All I’ve heard is that he was recruited to play WR.
Whose domicile? OUR DOMICILE!
Focus on Defense?
Tedford
- Focus on needs, no emphasis on offense/defense
- Want to get better on all positions, not just one

Interesting, guess we were really in the running for JR Ferguson.
Calbear91 it’s going on right now.

He’s going to play both sides of the field?

what about PR/KR?
"We lose to Stanford in many sports, but if you want to make a Cal team quit, bring a weapon."

Yep :) Apparently he’s athletic enough to do it. JT said that if he really ends up wanting to concentrate on a particular side of the ball, then he can do that, but for now they’re going to try him both ways.

Many thanks to those of you who are keeping us updated
As many of us can’t follow the conference right now, we really appreciate that you’re posting these updates.
Whose domicile? OUR DOMICILE!
Thanks guys
Why is not playing in the one place that this and JO linked to? Oh well, I’m seeing it. Thanks.
I wish we'd filled the kicker position for kickoffs.
But I’m mostly REALLY happy !!!!!
I'd like to smell the Roses before I die.
Tedford seems really big on trajuan. He won’t say it, but it’s almost like he’s about to compare him to some elite elite RB’s.
They’ve done this before where they don’t show the highlights…guess we’re not privileged enough to see that…

You know, those fancy dinners around california where you get to pay x amount of money to have dinner at some hotel etc., and they talk about football stuff.
You know.
Just did a quick search but I guess some people have been there:
http://www.californiagoldenblogs.com/2008/5/20/523870/cal-coaches-tour-5-19-08
I’ve been there the last 2 years with many of hte readers/mods here and plan to go back again this year. We’ve aso had people at the SF and Sacto ones.

Who shows up at those things? Looking at the pictures from that post it looks like a very much older crowd (presumably with a lot of $$$$), you know, the more better and privileged members of the fanbase and not mere mortals like us.
It is for season ticket holders. It only costs like 20 bucks to attend. But yes, the amount of young people is minimal. And the amount of young people who aren’t, in some way, affiliated with this site, is very minimal. This is unfortunate considering you wanna get us youngsters early!

Put it this way: when I go to those things, I bring the average age down.
Snobby Chick - Senior Division
I should also note there are a lot of youngsters insomuch as many people bring their little kids. But people between the age of say 18-30 seems low, which is a key season ticket buying demographic. If you can get people to buy the season tickets, then, it becomes a yearly habit.

I showed up at one! Except I didn’t mean to, me and my friend were at Gordon Biersch when one of them was going on upstairs. I only found out why there was Cal shit everywhere later while reading this site…

BRIGGS IS THE MAN
Tedford got all excited talking about Trajuan Briggs, saying he can do stuff on tapes “as good as, well, you tell me who you think he looks like – we’ll talk more about that as we go along.”
but I can’t see who looks like!
"We lose to Stanford in many sports, but if you want to make a Cal team quit, bring a weapon."

I think Trajuan looks more like BEASTMODE than he looks like Jahvid.

A not-press conference post
Here’s are the signees’ numbers according to their recruiting videos on CalBears.com along with the names of any other players with the same number:
Tevin Carter – 2 (Charles Satchell, Marc Anthony, Cecil Whiteside)
Cecil Whiteside – 2 (Charles Satchell, Marc Anthony, Tevin Carter)
Kaelin Clay – 4 (Chris Little & big shoes to fill)
Zach Maynard – 6 (Alex Logan)
Austin Hinder – 7 (Quinn Tedford, D.J. Campbell, Terrance Montgomery)
Terrance Montgomery – 7 (Quinn Tedford, D.J. Campbell, Austin Hinder)
Keenan Allen – 9 (Beau Sweeney)
Adrian Lee – 10 (Brock Mansion)
Trajuan Briggs – 24 (Langston Jackson, Vachel Samuels)
Chris McCain – 40 (Georgio Tavecchio, Aaron Tipoti)
David Wilkerson – 44 (really big shoes to fill, literally)
Alex Crosthwaite – 66 (Charles Ragland)
Geoff Gibson – 70
Chris Adcock – 75 (Matt Summers-Gavin)
Jacob Wark – 80 (Anthony Miller)
Gabe King – 99 (Savai’i Eselu)
Michael Coley – ?
Nick Forbes – ?
Chris Martin – ?
Coleman Edmond – ?
A few thoughts:
First of all, Carter and Whiteside probably won’t both be #2 and Hinder and Montgomery probably won’t both be #7 since that would make 4 people wearing #2 and four people wearing #7. Secondly, Wark probably won’t wear #80 since our current starting TE Anthony Miller wears #80. Thirdly, if Keenan Allen is really going to go both ways, he’ll have to have a “stand-by” jersey ready in case Sweeney ever plays, since you can’t have two #9s on the field at the same time. I seem to recall Best having to wear a #14 jersey over his regular #4 a few times on kick-offs when there was another #4 on the field. Then he’d jet off the field and some dude would help him rip the #14 jersey off.
In general, I think all of these numbers are just placeholders for now and that there will likely be a lot of shuffling once everyone shows up for Spring camp.
Seem to still be available
25, 29, 32, 33, 36, 38, 41, 49, 51, 58, 60, 62,63, 64, 67, 78, 79, 83, 88, 94, 98
Can we use number in the hundreds?
by zachahuy on Feb 3, 2010 4:02 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
if you haven’t yet, everybody needs to see trajuan briggs’ highlight reel video on calbears.com. dude reminds me of a slightly faster marshawn lynch.
i'm here to clean your pool but i don't have a pool *bowchica bowow*
He pulled AWAY from so many guys. Yikes. Two years older, and in the Cal weight room and conditioning coaches all around, this guy can do whatever he wants. Like so many of these young men, his limit will be his own desire and work ethic and focus. Go Bears!
It is his herky jerky left and right quick start and stop change of direction and the overflowing locks that conjure ML.
nickle, you’ve been around for a while now, but I’m not entirely sure you are aware of the legendary place that that play has in the CGB Pantheon Of Awesomeness.

It’s more the picture that’s awesome then the video. In the picture we can pretend Chung doesn’t make the tackle.

Except ML rarely ran away from people. He just punished you if you got in his way. I still have fond memories of his Frosh and Soph years in particular. That boy WOULD NOT GO DOWN.
That’s my lasting memory of Beastmode in college, the amusement I’d get every time he would drag a group of 4-5 guys on him while our teammates would either watch the fiasco or help push the pile along.
Where most tailbacks would try to juke their defender if they were 1v1 against them in open space, Marshawn would lower his helmet and try to hit the other guy first. Just awesome.
Re Jacob Wark
In transit 2 meeting
tedford
- plays w/ low pad level
- releases from line well
- creates YAC
- reminds him of Craig Stevens
by solarise on Feb 3, 2010 3:03 PM PST via mobile reply actions
He’s still on an active roster in the NFL, right? Blocking as a TE can go a long way…
by Missing Barry on Feb 3, 2010 8:01 PM PST up reply actions
Re Terrance Montgomery & WRs in this class
- doesn’t play like a 2/3 star recruit
- great hands & speed; creates YAC
- an emphasis this yr w/ wr recruits
- this wr class reminds him the group of Lavelle Hawkins/DJax/R Jordan bec they all run 10.5-10.6 speed on track

Just a note
On the CBS College Sports website the video is back up from today’s press conference for replay.
Good for those who missed it (like me).
post online of presser
I would assume by tonite it will be up in several places. Check back after work.
I caught 1/2 hour of video/audio ….just clicked on link and it worked/free.
I’ve been forwarding links and info to Europe, Brazil and Thailand to Cal grads…
very nice day for Cal football….now we can see how things come along in the next few years….and the stadium upgrade will continue…long time coming all this…
Anyone want to put together a depth chart, pipeline chart?

I saw someone posted that for the RB position, but would like to see for the team as a whole.

When I dreamed prior to the Oregon game, everyone held a trial. Why not now!?
In other words, Go Bears!
Not sure if anyone’s mentioned this, but did anyone else notice the ridiculous amount of players this year that were recruited out of state, especially recruits not even in the pacific northwest.
Pretty remarkable to realize we now a legitimate big time program.
Now, people from the South have a NEW reason to hate me!

What’s really cool is to use Rivals.com’s mapping function, and if you toggle the search criteria to filter for year and California, you can see how the distribution of recruits we’ve targeted has gone from a tight cluster within California back in 2003, to a broad, national distribution of prospects in 2010.

Tevin Carter’s highlight film is absolutely blissful. He is ridiculously shifty and is 6’3. He needs to be hyped more immediately.
All aboard the Jerome Randle Smart Car!
ordinarily
I’d flag you for using ‘blissful’ on CGB.
