He has a herniated disc??

It would seem that Jahvid might be fully recovered now, but the herniated disc kept him out of the Poinsettia Bowl and the last few games post-concussion.

oh nos!

does that mean he’ll be drafted by the raiders and ….
play on the raiders?!?!?!?

Unsurprisingly Gerhart isn’t listed among top performers.

the media was tooting Spiller’s flute fir a while. Jahvid reminds everyone he was faster in high school and he’s still faster. sha-wing!

Desean ran a 4.35 at his combine.

Guess that finally answers that question…

by C98 on Feb 28, 2010 3:32 PM PST reply actions

DJax was 4.36 at his combine (you could hardly tell the difference with the naked eye if they lined up side by side)

Spiller looked better off the start, but it looked like Jahvid had a better cruise speed.

I still think DJax is a little better at the 40, but Jahvid could’ve been Olympic-class if he concentrated solely in the 100m.

That said, Jahvid was 20-30 pounds heavier than DJax for his run.

by Thoroughbred on Feb 28, 2010 4:04 PM PST up reply actions

Don Beebe had the fastest time I believe at 4.21. Chris Johnson was 4.22. Diff combines so you can’t really compare Jahvid’s 4.35 to Beebe or Johnson.

Outside of football, I think Asafa Powell has the fastest 40 (better than Bolt, who has the best top speed, obviously). He’s been known to be the strongest starter of the world-class sprinters.

Yeah see discussion on Yahoo! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080820113402AAXfPNV The mechanics of 100m and 40yd dash are so diff it’s impossible to compare imo.

How’s your recovery going? Hope things are well.

Ben Tate has been getting a lot of love today, but not much on J. Best.

I don’t think it would surprise anyone if every team doctor put a red flag on Jahvid, given that he herniated a disc from the leap and crash. Sucks. He’ll still get money in the early 2nd round (crosses fingers) and will make some great HL reel plays as a rookie. He could have the same year as Percy Harvin. It was amazing how much bigger he looked with his pads off. I would’ve thought he was 5’8.5" and 185 lb. He measured 5’10.125" and 199….!!!!

jahvid body looked alot more well built then spillers did

i think with jahvids 40 and the knocks on dwyer best may get picked by san diego at 28th

by 4Ever Golden on Feb 28, 2010 4:15 PM PST up reply actions

that would be a great spot for him. i’m keeping my fingers crossed.

although I would hate rooting for San Diego

Jahvid's a legit 5'10

i remember seeing him on campus last fall, and he definitely looked 5-10 to me … and solid, but not as beastmode as he looked at the combine

by verytech on Mar 1, 2010 8:24 AM PST up reply actions

anyone have a video of the running backs simulcast? Showed Jahvid closing on spiller

Apparently the simulcast shows that best was way behind the other rb’s after the start, but after the 10 yard mark he makes huge gains on everyone including spiller. If anyone could post a link or the actual video I would be thankful!

jahvid would kill in the 100 still

if u watch that vid he woulda killed them in the 100 spiller woulda lost by about 1.0 second or more if he hits second gear and passes at 40 yards

i just want best in the 1rst round….itll make buying his jersey so much easier

by 4Ever Golden on Mar 1, 2010 2:12 AM PST up reply actions

But it’ll make his jersey more expensive! You want a Desean like deal, where his jersey comes cheap early and then attains huge value in the years to come.

jahvid's second gear

is probably second to none – which is why he almost never gets caught from behind (if at all)

by verytech on Mar 1, 2010 8:25 AM PST up reply actions

Spiller looks like he’s ahead at the end (I’m guessing this is a trick in the angles we’re seeing). That being said, Jahvid’s second gear is incredible.

Yeah

If what I saw was the 3-cone-drill, Spiller didn’t participate. He ran his 40 and put on a black sweater to sit out the rest of the events.

by BleedinBlue on Feb 28, 2010 9:40 PM PST up reply actions

nvm

That wasn’t it; regardless, it looks like Spiller sat out for the rest of the day.

by BleedinBlue on Feb 28, 2010 9:45 PM PST up reply actions

Didn’t see it, but the 3 cone drill tests ability to change directions at high speeds. In other words, Spiller is a track guy playing football. Best is a football guy that runs track.

by Cali49a on Feb 28, 2010 8:21 PM PST up reply actions

I don’t know how much this helps him, honestly. Everyone knows he’s silly fast. But I think he need close to a Chris Johnson level of silly fast to combat concerns over his durability, and he didn’t get there. If anything it might help Spiller some, since there is not nearly as great a separation between them on the track as you might assume from highlights.

Hopefully the fact that Jahvid came in at a legit 200 (well 199) and positive medical tests help his stock and get him back in the first round, but on the face I don’t think things have changed that much.

by dchu on Feb 28, 2010 8:19 PM PST reply actions

How fast does Chris Johnson run the 40?

Best slipped up at the start of his 40 and surged to beat Spiller; I’m wondering if he could’ve run a sub-4.3 40 if given a third shot.

by BleedinBlue on Feb 28, 2010 9:38 PM PST up reply actions

Chris Johnson ran a 4.24. Jahvid ran fast, but that’s a cut above.

by Ed Yevelev on Feb 28, 2010 10:09 PM PST reply actions

I kinda feel like Mooch shafted him a little.

“blah blah concussion blah blah blah” All of a sudden now that the NFL has decided to pay attention to head injuries, they’re gonna treat everyone like a pariah who’s had one? I know you need to be careful with guys, and I’m all for that, I am. On the other hand, you’ve got to give him the same respect that everyone who’s come before him has had. He had one concussion his entire college career – plenty of people have had multiple in their college career, and it didn’t hurt their draft status. I know we need to protect people, but let’s still give them their due.

NFL.com’s combine results have him at 4.43….

Maybe 4.24 was unofficial (I saw a report that Spiller ran a 4.28 or something similar unofficially)?
