US-Canada Hockey Open Thread

I'm not the biggest hockey fan, but this seems to be a big match.  Live for all.  Perhaps a fresh thread for you hockey heads!

They just saw that like the entire Canda team is from San Jose.  SAN HO!  Anything Cal related in this game??

GO AMERICA!

This is great, but 1980 was better. USA vs. USSR was Good vs. Evil. USA vs. Canada is more Good vs. Innocuous.

After 1 period its Canada up 1-0. I want USA to win, but figure that it wouldnt be so bad if Canada wins. They seem to really like hockey and itd make them happy.

this is where I was

actually I was on a plane with this attitude, missing the game. Blargh.

Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti. "I treat Timmy differently from most pitchers: I leave him alone."

Bengie Molina: "I don't understand why they didn't want to commit to another year, with my numbers and my experience and things like that." Brain Sabean: "He's certainly welcomed back with open arms".

College Basketball

Instead of watching the hockey game, I’m watching the Louisville-Connecticut game on CBS and Michigan State-Purdue is next.

Great Game

Connecticut had 28 more rebounds than Louisville at home, but ended up losing a thriller.

Why would you take your stick and punch a guy in the face with it? Especially when it’s against the rules?

2-0?

The Canadian team should be ashamed of themselves for being so rude! And as hosts, too!

I don’t get the sense that the US can mount the same kind of crazy assault the Canadians did at the end of the prelim matchup. But they only need one moment of brilliance or one moment of Canadian failure…

With like 30 seconds left, USA scores a goal in the middle of a madcap scramble to tie it at 2-2. Now overtime. Apparently in hockey overtime is 20 minutes. Is it sudden death or is it full 20?

Sudden death 4 on 4 action.

What if its tied at the end of the overtime period? They do a shootout right?

And if still tied after 20 minutes, they go to a bullshit way to decide a game shootout.

Why is that so bad? Isnt that sort of like college football overtime?

At least college OT has a full offense and defense on the field. A shootout would be like if Cal picked Jahvid and USC picked Taylor Mays and they both went onto the field to see if Jahvid could score a TD before Mays tackled him.

….whoa that would be awesome! But a horrible way to decide the winner of a game!

Doesn't change a thing.

Our rugby team mopped the floor with their rugby team, and rugby isn’t even a major sport here at all.
Fuck Canada.

It's most certainly bigger than what it is here.

Bobby went to high school pretty much across the street from where I grew up, so I was rooting for him to do really well in the majors, especially since he was playing for the A’s. But I gotta say, he’s been a disappointment.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
