"But it only takes five future unabombers to take what should be a 400-comment thread and turn it into a 1,200-comment one full of anger… anger I suspect has more to do with the fact that they can’t land the hot chick rather than the fact that we signed Aubrey Huff instead of gave Garko a chance after dealing away a supposedly valuable prospect for him." -mlb22

So, if Cal beats ASU, but loses at Stanford, and ASU sweeps the LA schools at home, then doesn’t it result in a split title ??
Well, we swept ASU, for what it’s worth. I don’t know if the Pac-10 considers that a tie-breaker for the regular season outright title or not.
The #1 greatest threat to America: BEARS
Don’t think there’s a tiebreaker. We split it.
Of course, winning it alone would be much much better.

How would they determine the top seed for the Pac-10 tournament in case of a tie?
Snobby Chick - Senior Division
Head to head, then record against the third best team in the conference, then then record against fourth best team in the conference…
Yeah, that’ll make my head hurt. Let’s win Saturday and not worry about any of this nonsense.

well, in football that would be a split title with the winner going to the Rose Bowl. But technically they call it a “split” title.
So, I guess what I’m saying is we need to win 2 more games! Would help just a tad with seeding, as well… (like, BIG TIME)
Watch out, 'cause I'm on the bandwagon!
I don’t really like basketball, but I did REALLY like this game. Maybe because it was on national television. Maybe because the alternative is watching ice dancing or snowboarding. Or maybe it was just because that was one fine display of offense by the men in blue gold silver. Excellent shooting. Fine passing. Some really nice picks and movement off the ball. Generally smart decision making as to when to aggressively force the tempo and when to wait patiently for a better shot. Nice energy to earn lots of offensive rebounds. Solid (per usual) on the free-throw line. Players taking turns leading the way. Just a great performance all the way around.
Consistency on the defensive end is still lacking, but it’s hard to criticize this win. Well done Bears! It may be the 25th anniversary of Air Jordan, but it’s the 50th freakin’ anniversary of our last conference title.
Go Bears!

I have been officially converted to support of the silver uniforms, even though I hate them.

No
Do not say that; our colors (colours?) and blue and Gold and always will be.
Am I known as Cugel the Clever for nothing?
Actually, I thought they looked fine. I didn’t love them, but I would have no complaints if they went into the regular rotation.
So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!
Who?

From my blog (see sig)
Since you guys won’t have one til tomorrow, here’s mine.
Cal demolishes Arizona, makes a statement on Pac-10 supremacy
Obviously, Arizona is reeling and they were struggling coming into this one. Cal didn’t make matters better for them, blowing them out of the gym 95-71.
The first half started even, as it would be 11-8 with 15 minutes left, Cal up. From the 14:09 mark on (score 16-9 after a Robertson 3) the Bears dominated. They would close the half on a 27-22 run from that mark, making the score 43-31 at the half. They were down by 20 at one point, but came back.
The Bears would have the game under control in the second. Even though Arizona threatened, they never came within single digits. It would be easy going, and the only loss was not breaking 100 in the 95-71 win.
Nic Wise was the difference-maker in the first game, guiding the Wildcats to the W with 30 points. He would do no such thing tonight, as Jorge Gutierrez and Jerome Randle would shut down the senior stud. He was held to 7 points on 2-8 shooting, and he never got his offense going. He only had a single assist on the night, and turned the ball over 3 times. He was 1-5 from the 3 point line.
Jamal Boykin, with all apologies to Jerome Randle, may be the MVP of this game. He simply outplayed the more highly touted Derrick Williams, as he scored 20 points and he nabbed 10 rebounds. He shot 7-13 from the field and made all 6 of his free throw attempts. Williams scored an impressive 17 points, but on worse shooting (exactly 50%), but he did miss 3 free throws and turned the ball over 5 times. For tonight, Boykin was the far better player.
We almost expect it every night, but again Jerome Randle was excellent. It’s no shock he scored 24 points, had 7 assists, and shot above 50% on the night. Randle, by far, outperformed Wise and got his revenge.
Theo Robertson and Christopher also made plays when the Bears needed them. Theo, who had a career game against Arizona last time, notched 18 points on 66% shooting. He also sparked several key runs with his shooting. Christopher scored 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Keys to the game were rebounding and defense. They outshot Arizona 56.7% to 48.1%, and made 7 more free throws. They also outrebounded the Wildcats 31-22.
Two games remain in the season. Beat Arizona State, and at least a share of the conference title is guaranteed. Lose, and we still might have a chance, but it’s unlikely. Win both against ASU and Stanford, and we have our first conference title to ourselves in 50 years. Go Bears!

I LOVE when Jerome comes up big.
Tonight it was the three pointers. Go ahead, leave me open at the half-court line and I’ll make you PAYYYYYYY!!!!!
Looks like the gym pavilion was pretty full; anyone know how close we came to a sell-out? Sounded loud on TV; was it?
I'd like to smell the Roses before I die.
We didn’t really come close, but it was a very good crowd tonight.

Good news everybody!
Somehow, Oregon outscored USC 31-12 in the 2nd half and beat the Trojans! And that means…
Cal clinches the Pac-10 with a win on Saturday!

I ain’t posting a photo until _______ happens. If it does, and that’s a big IF, then I have the photo.
2. Player of the game was _______________ because ______________,
Boykin – 20 and 10. 20 and 10. (Although J-rome dropping 17 points in 8 minutes was nice)
3. Use one word to describe each of our seniors (and don’t forget about Nikola!)
ONE MORE YEAR! ONE MORE YEAR!
4. Biggest thing Cal needs to do to knock off ASU is _________________.
Shoot like we know they can, play tough D and take care of the ball. Do these three things, everything will work out.
5. And finally, to appease the woofing gods: How will Cal blow it again?
We’re Cal. We can think out of the box on how to blow it in new and creative ways! We have a Nobel Prize in blowing it!
Nikola with the behind the back!
I snuck into the donor section…sat like right behind the bench! I think I might have seen Rishi (did you go?) Randle dropping 3s was sick.

Great Game Bears
Was up in the rafters with my budy and my two free tickets from being in the first 200 to renew FB season tickets.
This was a game where the Seniors really took turns carrying Cal during their runs – Theo first, then Christopher in the first half, Randle during the big second half run, and Boykin towards the end.
We did a good job on the boards and a decent job on defense. Much better against the high pick-and-roll, not letting Wise split it as we did in the desert. We could not really stop Williams inside but somewhat contained him and didn’t let him (or Wise on the outside) take over the game.
As for the role-players, Amoke got into foul trouble but did get Cal’s first bucket on a put-back. Gutierrez was his usual scrappy self. MSF also had foul trouble but got a couple buckets inside along with some good defensive boards and a knockout pick on a Zona defender. Seeley started rough but hit a couple shots at the end. And Nikola even got fouled on a 3, and then had a sweet behind-the-back dribble and layup on a fast break.
Pretty good, albeit late-arriving crowd, and a great day to be a Bear. Let’s bring it home on Saturday!
Go Bears!
I guess it didn’t make it on to TV, but Rally Comm had a HUGE blowup of “serious rally-comm guy is not amused” staring evily into the camera that they used to try and distract free-throw shooters. anyone besides me see it?
Remember, the enemy's end zone is DOWN!
OH
That’s what it was! It was half covered by the basket from my view in the student section…

Were you behind the whole Victoria thing tonight? If so, well done

It didn’t stop SportsCenter from making fun of us. Just saw it this morning. As a prelude to the highlights, they showed a picture of Monty with his quote earlier this week about wanting Cal fans to fill up Haas. Then ESPN showed a pic of the stands from what looked like the 1st half – some empty seats behind the benches, which I could swear were filled by the late 1st half.
Anchor (Steve Everett?) after the crowd shot: “I guess some of the fans were still at People’s Park.”
Ouch.
