Shane Vereen played last three games of 2009 with a torn meniscus
According to Ron Gould at the Cal-Wazzu Hoops Party (we don't know whether the coaching staff knew about the injury beforehand, that's all the info he revealed). TwistNHook will have a full report pretty photos of the event later, but we'd just thought we'd let you know. (It's unconfirmed whether he played with an extra set of balls, but we wouldn't be surprised.)
For now, our hoops team is in first place. Scroll down or click here to discuss this developing story!

I'm not a medical whiz
so how serious is a torn meniscus? I would guess a torn anything would be pretty serious but he was able to play those games and played really well.
What did i tell you...didn't I say they would win? Yeah that's right I did didn't ? Wait.. what? They LOST?!?!?
I had that and it fucking HURTS! I mean, SERIOUSLY hurts. I can’t believe he played with it.

I tore mine after getting in a motorcycle accident. Every time I tried to straighten my knees, or if I inadvertently moved them from side to side, I not only screamed, a tear rolled down my cheek. It really, really hurts.

I noticed he looked really slowed against Utah.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Shane.
It’s been my fear that we actually aren’t too deep (in terms of bodies, basically) at RB. An injury next year…and Briggs may not even RS. Let’s hope Yarnway and Vereen are all good to go… DeBo looks promising too. It’ll be fun to see how the carries are split next year. Got a great feeling (buy low — sell high!)
Cooler than a Polar Bear's toenails.
good luck Shane... godspeed
now why was it that we didn’t spell him as much after Best got hurt, again?

Some of the media guys were talking about a rumored injury to Vereen during the Poinsettia Bowl
None of us could figure out what it was, though…we thought maybe it was an ankle injury. This must have been the true source of that rumor.
Whose domicile? OUR DOMICILE!
All our RBs were banged up this year
Yarnway: out before the season started
Best: Injured vs OSU but banged up earlier in the year
Vereen: Torn meniscus, regular bumps and bruises
Deboskie: Hand injury midway through the season, had surgery a few weeks ago
Langston Jackson: Undisclosed injury, but was on the shelf for a good part of the season
No wonder why Sofele was moved over to the RB spot.
Sheesh.
Deboskie was injured too? No wonder we never got any carries.

Yes, I attended this event this morning. Speeches by Greg Gottlieb, asst. b-ball coach, Ron Gould, asst f-ball coach, and Sandy. Greg Gottlieb didn’t offer a lot of inner knowledge, but did talk about how a successful football team can really help with recruiting. Probably vice versa, too.
Gould spoke at length about the recruiting class. He was extraordinarily excited. I’ll have more on this early next week. He’s been there for 14 years! Thats very impressive. People are very high on Lupoi as a recruiter, but Gould seemed very good at recruiting too. He convinced me that Cal was going to be great next year, that is for sure!!!
Sandy spoke about more general topics. She said there were no decisions made on whether to cut women’s golf/women’s tennis. She guessed that there would be no Pac12, bc it wouldnt work out financially. And she said they were close to picking a 2011 football stadium. Interesting stuff.
I’ll have more soon.

as usual..a question
Has Shane had arthroscopic surgery to repair the meniscus? I tore mine a few years ago and had a great recovery…was running 4 weeks post op, so hopefully he will be OK

God. DAMN.
I had to have my meniscus scoped in ‘07 and I don’t lift anything heavier than money or liquor. Vereen has the nuts God gave a wooly mammoth – this is a fact, and it is indisputable.
