Cal Volleyball Update: Golden Bears Sweep Tar Heels, Advance To Sweet Sixteen
via sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net (via Cal Volleyball Facebook)
It was all Golden Bears. Cal won the three sets 25-13, 25-18, 25-18, and other than briefly trailing in the second set 9-6, they were barely threatened. Carli Lloyd had her customary 38 assists. Tarah Murrey racked up 16 kills and a .382 attack rate. Adrienne Gehan (7 kills, .294 attack rate), Correy Johnson (6 kills, .429 attack rate), Shannon Hawari (6 kills, .750 attack rate), Kat Brown (5 kills, .308 attack rate) spread the wealth around on offense.
Cal had 43 kills to North Carolina's 32, and only 8 attack errors to North Carolina's 22. They also managed 55 digs to North Carolina's 39, led by 20 from Robin Rostratter, 10 from Lloyd, 9 from Murrey, and 5 from both Erin Freeman and Meagan Schmitt. The defense was where Cal made their presence felt--20 blocks for the Golden Bears (5 from Lloyd and Brown, 4 from Hawari), and only 2 for North Carolina.
The seventh seeded Golden Bears moves onto the third round in Seattle, where they'll take on the tenth seeded Minnesota Gophers. The road should only get tougher for Cal, and they'll need our support every step of the way. GO BEARS!

This should be a stiffer test than Cal's first round beatdown of Utah State. GO BEARS!

I would not be surprised if this is another easy win for the Bears.

Out of everything in today’s Bearathon (I forgot to copyright it when I used this earlier in a different thread), this is probably the one matchup I’m most confident in (Water Polo comes in at a close second).

I INVENTED BEARATHON AND NOBODY CAN PROVE OTHERWISE!

I stole that dirty. But I’ll take all credit.

How ya gonna keep 'em down on the Farm, after they've seen Berkeley?
You are reading odd things into my statement regarding stealing “that dirty.”

upset alert
the #1 overall seed, Florida Gators is trailing 1 set to 2 to FSU and probably is also trailing in set 4 (can’t figure out the score between the lag in GameTracker to the videofeed).
Florida prevailed in the fifth set and very barely. Anyhow, Florida looks overrated since a mediocre ACC team was able to push them to the limit.

They aren’t the same team they’ve been for the past, what, four years, but me too.

sound
Is it just my computer (which has been flaky lately) or is the feed has no sound at all. It used to be (yesterday and most of the webcast) that you can hear the announcer.
I can hear the announcer. Try logging out and logging back in again. That worked for me the other day.
How ya gonna keep 'em down on the Farm, after they've seen Berkeley?
You had to log in? I’m getting the sound, but since the announcer isn’t always talking, there are long spots of silence.

I just meant to shut down the link and then go back to it. (It sure would be nice if they had a crowd mic so it wasn’t just dead silence most of the time!)

It is lack of tech like this or radio broadcast that may prevent us from hosting NCAA volleyball regional in the near future.

Don’t you think that all that tar on those girls’ heels puts them at a disadvantage?
How ya gonna keep 'em down on the Farm, after they've seen Berkeley?
How long you kept that one in your back pocket?

On a scale of teenage girl who discovered that her friend’s parents are letting her throw a party while they’re out of town to someone who isn’t very jealous at all, how jealous are you that CalBear81 said it first?

Meh, I still got Bearathon and that’s all that matters!

I think it’d give them an unfair advantage, make it easier for them to be grounded for their hits.
Also, they are used to playing that way, so they gum up half of the the court that puts our team at a disadvantage when they switch sides.

True. Minnesota has a nice history, it seems.
I hope Washington beats Nebraska, just because I know we can beat Washington (but, of course, that would be a hot UDub team)
Five
When we made the Final Four (in Carli’s freshman year), I think we beat Minnesota (to advance to Sweet Sixteen) as well as Nebraska (to advance to the Final Four).

There was a somewhat weird replay of a point (after the initial call was going to give FSU double or triple match point). The video replay showed that the call of 4 hit was incorrect but there shouldn’t have been the use of video replay…

You think Womens BBall feels like they let the Bearathon (copyright me) down?
