Even though I’m a Cal fan, I have to say I’d love to see that Harbaugh-Luck scenario.
Who’s to say the 49ers would have a pick high enough to snag Luck, though…?

Interesting – the 49ers could have taken local hero Rodgers years ago. Will they pass on another local hero again if given the chance???

Perhaps the 49ers will trade up for the #1 pick. The Carolina Panthers have locked the #1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. They have horrible QB play right now. But are they really going to spend a high draft pick on a QB again? I say, “again,” because they used their second round draft pick last year to select Jimmy Clausen. Taking two QBs in the first two rounds of the draft two years in a row is repeatitive, and would seemingly make Clausen a perennial #2 QB and a waste of a draft pick. So despite Carolina needing better QB play, I’m inclined to think that they will not select Andrew Luck. Perhaps they will trade down, allowing a team who wants Luck to trade up. Or perhaps they will draft Luck then immediately trade him to a team that wants him. Anyways, bottom line, it seems like the 49ers could get Luck if they wanted to and they may not even need the #1 draft pick to do it. It’s completely possibly Luck isn’t selected #1 and slips a few spots once all the seniors (and juniors) have been evaluated in the combines and pro days.

I think Carolina has bigger problems than Clausen. We’ve seen many times over how just getting a new QB never fixes anything. I think Carolina will go the route of shoring up the rest of the team first.

That said, McNabb is now up for grabs (both by Niners and Carolina)….
