Vachel Samuels No Longer On Cal Roster, Possible Medical Retirement
Ryan Gorcey of BearTerritory at Rivals reports. A redshirt freshman this season, Samuels was injured before the start of the season (just like he was injured at the start of LAST season), and it apparently is serious enough that he won't be returning. It's unclear at this time if he'll be staying at Cal and retaining his scholarship.
We wish Vachel the best.

He’s been missing from the Cal roster for a while now but they forgot to delete his profile:

They don’t ever delete player’s profiles. Chris Martin is still listed.

But Jake Locker’s mom reads CGB and then publicizes his french kisses to her to tease us?
Wait what does that mean?

I figured it out. Jake Locker frenches his mom then makes money off it.
WTF kind of system is that?
Ok I know some people would pay for that but wtf.

Sorry to hear about Samuels. I was happy when I heard he was coming to Cal. Good luck!
Bring back the Pac-10!!!
Wow, big news. Hopefully he’ll stay and finish his degree. He went to Lynwood HS, located in the very city where JT was born.

I thought the medical redshirt deal was a way around the Max Scholarship limit, but the player still got to keep their scholarship.
What happened in basketball with Jordi Gelli or Sam Rayburn or Taylor Harrison???
If your athletic career is ended due to injury, you can remain on scholarship but it will not count toward the NCAA schollie limits. This situation is technically different from “medical redshirt.”
A medical disqualification or medical non-counter is a different situation. This involves a medical condition in which the student-athlete is advised to not ever further participate in intercollegiate athletics. If this situation is approved, the student-athlete may retain their grant-in-aid at the discretion of the institution for the remainder of their four to five year college experience. The next academic year, the student-athlete doesn’t count toward the maximum number of grants allotted to a team. If the student-athlete subsequently practices or returns to competition at that institution, he or she will "count" the entire inactive period unless a waiver is granted by the NCAA Management Council.
Yes, I am an Old Blue. Now get off my lawn.
Nice to see Tedford & Co. trimming the fat, so to speak.

We’re probably going hard for McClure now.
