Tedford & Company
Todd Barr, DT Lakewood (Lakewood, CA) has Cal as his leader following his visit during the Cal-Arizona State weekend [$1].
"I was ready to do it," Barr said. "In my head, I decided I was ready to commit and be a Bear but after talking to my mom a few days after the trip and thinking things over some more, I decided I would take my last two trips.
"My mom just asked me, 'are you 100 percent sure you want to do this' and I still had a little hesitation and decided I didn't want to rush into something and look back later and have regrets. It was a great visit though and right now, Cal is very high on my list."
Sheldon Richardson, DT Colleges of the Sequoias (Visalia, CA) plans to visit Cal officially [2]. A former US Army All-American selection, Richardson already visited Cal once in the Spring [3].
Brandon Wright, RB/DB, Palo Verdes (Las Vegas, NV) accepted his invitation to play at the NUC All-World Gridiron Classic Game at Citadel in Charleston, SC [4].

Devon Blackmon, ATH Summit (Fontana, CA) Marqise Lee, ATH, Jason Gibson, OLB, George Farmer, WR Serra (Gardena, CA) are visiting Oregon for the Ducks-Huskies weekend [5].
Brennan Scarlett, DE/TE Central Catholic (Portland, OR) officially visited Oregon for the Ducks-Bruins weekend [6].
Daniel Lasco, RB (Cal) The Woodlands (The Woodlands, TX) is returning strong from his ankle sprain, rushing for 698 yards and 8 TDs [7].
Frank Clark, ATH Glenville (Akron, OH) has made it into the Buckeye State Playoffs [8].
Colt Lyerla, ATH Hillsboro (Hillsboro, OR) is set to visit USC on November 5th-6th and UCLA on December 4th. Ohio State, Cal, and Arizona are fighting for his other official visits [9]. Oregon and Oregon State may not be in the picture [10].
Bryce Treggs, WR St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) {2012} offered by UCLA [11][$12].
Treggs is easily among the most gifted players in the region, regardless of position. In eight games, against one of the toughest schedules in the state, Treggs has 47 catches for 825 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also has 31 tackles and four picks on defense, but is being recruited strictly as a receiver at this time.
On the recruiting front, the offer from the Bruins was the third for Treggs joining Arizona State and Stanford. Treggs' father Brian played receiver for Cal but the athlete is saying that won't play a factor in his decision.
Thomas Johnson, ATH Skyline (Dallas, TX){2012} is planning an unofficial visit to Auburn in the Spring [$13].
Highlights [14]

Byron Marshall, RB Valley Christian (San Jose, CA) {2012}, Amir Carlisle, RB The King's Academy (San Jose, CA), Kyle Boehm, QB Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, CA) are all leading candidates for CIF Metro Section's Player of the Year Award [15].
DeAnthony Arnett, WR Saginaw (Saginaw, MI) eliminated Cal [$16].
"He has eliminated Cal and is down to USC, Tennessee and Michigan State," DeAnthony's brother Ralph Arnett said. "Right now, DeAnthony is pretty confident in his decision but hasn't told any of us yet and I don't even know what he's going to do."
Aaron Green, RB James Madison (San Antonio, TX) verbally committed to Nebraska [17]. Cal eliminated.
Monty's Crew
Shabazz Muhammad, SG 6-5/190 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) {2012} proved his national recruit status at the Fullcourt Press Las Vegas Showcase [18].
A top five prospect nationally in the class of 2012, there aren't many guys more explosive to the rim. He's a relentless competitor and has a polished mid-post game that compliments his transition finishing. There's not a better rebounding wing, he plays smart and the jumper continues to evolve. Muhammad is noticeably stronger and he's a violent slam dunker who attacks the rim whenever he can.
Daniel Green, C 6-9/205 Grapevine (Grapevine, TX) verbally committed to Wake Forest. Cal eliminated [19].

Boy do I feel old!
When I saw Bryce Treggs’ name, I thought about Brian Treggs and his TD catch on the last play of the game for Cal vs UW in 1990. Possibly the most exciting game I’ve been to. Then I continued reading and that’s his son.
I think that was also the day before the Oakland hills fire.
Arnett
Sad that he eliminated us. I know he was a longshot, but after the A+ he gave us I thought we would at least be in his final 2 or 3. Wonder what happened in the last month for him to change his mind like that.
Best of luck to D Arnett
It seemed to me that Arnett and Kiffin made a strong connection all the way back to Kiffin’s days at Tennessee. Arnett was killing the Midwest camps but didn’t become nationally known until a summer camp at Knoxville his junior year. Kiffin thought Arnett looked like a bigger and faster version of DJax and worked him out thoroughly for a scholarship offer before taking off to $C. Mich St remains as Arnett’s in-state school. Charlie Baggett who coached Chris Carter & Randy Moss at Minnesota Vikings recruits well because of his NFL resume. Kiffin’s relationship w/ Arnett obviously carried over to $C.

I can’t help but wonder what role the USC and OSU losses had. Hard to imagine him dropping us otherwise after a “10 out of 10” official visit.
Individual losses are rarely deciding factors. If so, we wouldn’t have pulled in the North Carolina group away from the quacks.

Arnett said the losses didn’t matter to him. What was more important for Arnett was to see how $C utilized Ronald Johnson & Robert Woods. Reports have Arnett so into the game that he was taking mental reps as Johnson or Woods figuring out what routes he would run. I think $C has an advantage over Mich St and Tenn at this point for Arnett.

Nothing happened. Cal was in his top schools and Arnett liked Cal very much but he has always liked other places more.
Based on Solarise’s link above that came out 11/2, Arnett’s brother is quoted as saying Cal is out of it. Now, his brother is saying Cal is not out of it? Sounds like somebody is trying to generate some publicity.
Arnett has tweeted some funny stuff throughout the process. He has been enjoying the media attention. This week he is appealing to Michigan State and Tennessee fans to increase his following.

Expecting Monty to land big-name recruits is like expecting 160 million dollars to win you an election.
That being said, Monty has always been the master of spinning 3-stars into gold.

Yeah, but we’re not Oregon State. We should be more attractive to recruits than we seem to be.

But still? We’ve had some exciting basketball the past few years.
by atomsareenough on Nov 3, 2010 3:36 PM PDT up reply actions
There aren’t that many blue chippers, and the trend these days is for all of them to get together and romp on everyone else (Kansas, UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Syracuse, etc.).

Hahah, it’s nice of you to include Syracuse in that top echelon, but honestly, I think the Orange are maybe the next tier down from those programs when it comes to having a full cast of blue chippers to “romp on everyone” with. Especially in a Big East with perennial powers like UConn, ‘Nova, West Virginia, and Georgetown to contend with year in and year out, not to mention smaller programs that can always beat you on any given night. Syracuse can compete with those guys and contend nationally, but it’s rare that they’re a top 5 favorite like those other teams, I think.

I don’t really think so. Cal’s never really been a basketball power house even though we’re a program that’s definitely up and coming with Monty. Most top recruits look at us… and then look at Kansas/Kentucky/Connecticut/UNC/Duke… and then realize that there really isn’t a decision to be made. We got Crabbe because we picked him up before anyone really knew about him; he blew up nationally after the commitment iirc.
No sure where that poster in Bears Insider got the information that Cal Leads for Lyerla...
That is completely wrong……..It’s pretty much between Oklahoma and Oregon at this point with a heavy lean towards Oregon.
Can you confirm this?

A.) MoragaBear never said Cal leads. He said Lyera is very interested in Cal. Considering Lyera contacted Cal to ask about the OLB position, I think that’s fair.
B.) I think Solarise overstates it by saying Oregon and OSU might not be in the picture. MoragaBear says “Oregon and OSU don’t seem to have a real edge with him,” which could simply mean he’s not giving the in-state teams any kind of favoritism edge.
C.) Given that the “poster in Bears Insider” runs Bear Insider, has a direct line of communication with these recruits, and is not known to be a hometown homer, I’m willing to take his word.
From the reports I’ve gathered I haven’t seen any mentions of Oregon or Oregon State in Lyerla’s recruiting at this stage. I could be wrong and perhaps Lyerla has made several unofficial visits to Oregon. There seems to be consensus tho that Lyerla is a kid who wants to go to college out of state and distance isn’t really a factor for him.
http://twitter.com/solariseCGB
This is a case of a kid using all his official visits
Pretty much every recruiting service I follow (Rivals, Scout, 24/7) has stated they would be very surprised if Lyerla went to any other place besides Oregon so I am not sure where this guy is getting this information. Granted recruiting is an incredibly unpredictable process and Lyerla has been playing recruiting very close to the chest due to rumors of grade issues, but this is the first place that I’ve ever seen Cal in the top group. Keep in mind this is a kid went to the Rose Bowl last year with his family in Duck gear.
IDK about the rest of this, but for future reference: The gear-wearing thing is ALWAYS misleading. It always misleads the fanbase. Hey, Robert Woods was wearing Cal gear last year! (for example)
4
Huge difference between having a picture taken with school gear on (all recruits do that)
and paying your own way to a bowl game with your family and being decked out in a schools gear. I. King was a complicated situation that had an incredibly messy back-story. That’s all I will say about that.
What’s the Oregon perspective on King? KElly was tired of waiting on King/King was screwing with Kelly by not committing so he yanked the scholarship? That seems to be the story Oregon fans were circulating last year after Oregon recruiting sites left vague statements about the scholarship offer being taken off the table because those sites had no clue as to what really went down. At the end of the day, King stuck with Lupoi and Cal because that’s where he felt most comfortable and since he was going to school in Eugene, he kept things to himself so Oregon fans wouldn’t jump all over him. Can you blame the kid? Oregon fans are pretty passionate (which I really respect) but some can also can be borderline psychotic when it comes to their sports teams.
I would actually love to have a real conversation with someone close to the situation from Cal's side at some point
Just to hear how it went down from their perspective.
Is that the same Oregon gear Gabe King was wearing on his facebook page?
by TooMuchtoBear on Nov 3, 2010 5:46 PM PDT up reply actions
Oregon fans were saying the same thing about King last year and look how that turned out.
this is the first place that I’ve ever seen Cal in the top group
Then I would say those recruiting sites aren’t very good. I wouldn’t say Cal is the leader but they have been in his top schools for a while now.
Haha....alright buddy, you take one post on a free board as an indication that Cal leads over Oregon and Oregon State
I will take the three major recruiting networks and people who actually know Colt first hand.
MoragaBear is the recruiting reporter for Bear Insider
He is not an outsider.

There’s no reason for you to chime in on this board if you know where he’s ending up already. There were way too many delusional articles and posts by oregon people last year concerning Gabe King and Chris McCain, all of which were completely baseless.

Quack quack quack! I think they get very touchy in cases like this because so many top prospects from Oregon state end up at the California schools.

Where did I say Cal leads?
Apparently, you can’t read. Learn how to read a sentence before commenting in a smug way.
You still don't get it
Where did I, CALI49A, say Oregon and Oregon State leads?
I’m not going off of what boards say. I don’t get my information from there.
I don’t really have a problem with you disagreeing w/ what I’ve posted. As you’ve stated before, recruiting is an incredibly unpredictable process. I’m sure Colt will make the best decision for himself and his family.
Rumors about recruits’ academics/grades issues are often false and not credible imo. I try not to read too much into it.
http://twitter.com/solariseCGB
No worries....rumors are rumors and most people who have been through these for years know that nothing is finalized until that signature is on that dotted line
Wait......are you saying that that it's actually a solid line?
So what have our recruits been signing the last couple years?
wat is going on in this thread.

good news about Arnett
J.C Shurburtt just emailed saying he has talked with Arnett’s brother and Cal hasn’t been eliminated and is very much in the picture
